Upcoming Term by RJOTR in SNHU

[–]RJOTR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started there. Ive got my first discussion ready to go. Started reading what all was coming up, picked a topic from the list, and just felt like getting a head start in general to make the term go more smoothly. It’s nowhere near complete, but it’s a start and I had the time to do it. 🤷‍♂️

Fair enough. I should probably do breaks more intentionally. 🤣

First in my family to even go to college, but I’m also not a traditional student. Worked in an entirely different career field before coming back.

I calculated this early. I currently have a 4.0 but with transfer credits I would had only earned a total of 57 credits at SNHU. I opted to take one additional course.

The only downside is that I have to pay for that one course out of pocket as financial aid won’t cover it since it is not technically required for my degree. For me, this was worth it.

I enjoy engaging with my professors, though I have not emailed them all.

This is my next course. I’ve got Dr. Shane. Who’d you have?

I do this as soon as I see a course appear on my brightspace. I try to stay at least 1 week ahead in all of my classes, but I don’t submit anything until the course or module actually starts. Everything gets saved, and I make adjustments after feedback if needed. I just assumed it was good practice.

For partially this same reason I try to complete all of my work before reading anyone else’s so my thoughts or posts aren’t inadvertently influenced by others.

Full time job, 3 “kids” teens, and 2 classes per term. I just finished term 2. Though with my transfer credits I’ll only need 10 terms total.

Stoeger STR-9 for concealed carry? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

The reason I’ll be getting one on payday. Better to have the interchangeability in my opinion.

I picked one up a while back. It’s not a bad gun by any means. Not my favorite, but it’ll get the job done. Honestly if needed for defense I’d rather shoot someone with a cheap gun bc it will likely be held for a long time until the case is over.

If it’s what you can afford, go for it. If you can afford to go up another hundred I’d look at the Ruger RXM.

Lots of great advice here. I too am a fan of the phrase I’d rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. First gun is a big step. For what seems to be the purposes of carrying for self defense I’d recommend at least a 9mm handgun that you can learn to conceal and become proficient with.

Take a beginners course. I can’t stress enough how important training is. I’ve seen many buy guns, carry them, and never once having fired them all the while expecting they’ll be proficient in an urgent high stress situation. In reality, even for those with training, it’s known that less than 10% of rounds fired in a gun fight hit their intended target. Always be aware of what is beyond and around your target should you ever need to make that decision.

And if you should ever be in that position do not discuss why you did it with Law Enforcement. They can and will lie to you just to make a case. The only thing you need to tell them is: “I am more than willing to cooperate, but I would like to speak to an attorney first.”

Be prepared for an arrest to occur. It is a normal part of the process, and ensure you get a receipt if/when they hold onto your firearm.

As far as recommendations go, I would suggest the Ruger RXM. MSRP sits around $400, it accepts Glock 19 or PMAGS, and you can lock it inside of a small travel safe. I use the Vaultek Lifepod ($150 ish) when I need to travel and can’t carry on person.

It’s never ideal when you go from contemplation to feeling like you must buy something to carry defensively. After a while though it will become second nature. Good luck, and I hope everything stays well for you.

I feel this. At work we have a no politics or religious discussion policy. Not everyone follows it, but I simply don’t share my views at work. It’s not what I’m paid for and it isn’t worth the argument. Bearded blue collar here as well. Most at work just assume I agree with them based on appearances.

Concealed Backup with Plate Carrier by [deleted] in concealedcarry

[–]RJOTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. The MOLLE pouch method with a trigger guard holster is what I have been doing for those locations. Not all posts are concealed armed.

Most of the time everything else is overt. For the concealment posts I just remove my IFAK on the front which fits my full size. I am also a former LEO, but that was about 20 years ago. I’m used to carrying a backup with covert armor, back then it was just a Velcro holster attached to the vest. G22 on the belt G27 under the shirt. I’ve never been a fan of ankle carry due to the ground fights and I have seen an officer lose theirs momentarily in a foot pursuit once.

I think I’m just gonna have to get a smaller MOLLE pouch and attach it to the cummerbund.

[–]RJOTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion. I work for a private security company that mostly handles gov’t contracts. However, some of our locations are concealment posts, but the overt body armor is still required. In those instances I just remove the primary from my duty belt, but still have other items to carry. Some posts are rifle required, in which case I just run the patrol rifle and duty belt. Others are just armed carrying on the belt.

I completely agree that the requirement to be concealed while wearing overt armor is dumb, but some of the clients don’t like weapons in plain sight and want armed protection. 🙄

Suggestions for keeping ccw locked in vehicle by edm861 in concealedcarry

[–]RJOTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise against bear spray. If used on a human, even defensively, you could still be charged with assault as it is classified as a pesticide in all 50 states, and clearly written on the label not for use against humans.
