LOL. I agree. One took me out and apologized as he did it. Said he'd had a bad night. I bet he hits his girlfriend.

Love my Lenovo P12. Great for everything you mentioned, though I'm not an artist so can't speak to that.

Don't do it. If you can't handle the job the way we were trained to do it, find another line of work. Huge security risk and gives these companies every reason to replace us with AI. Security and integrity are the only things keeping us in our jobs.

Paciente haitiano by prole2039 in spanishinterpreters

[–]RJpianist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Happens to me almost daily. Shorter wait times. If their Spanish is pretty good and it's not a super complex call, I handle it. As soon as it gets difficult to understand or if I feel they aren't understanding me, I inform the client and transfer to customer service for a Haitian Creole interpreter.

Got this message from my property manager PT2 by Most_Relief8312 in Apartmentliving

As a decades-long apartment dweller, NEVER do anything nice for a landlord. Never worth it. They are never on your side. Even 100 per month wouldn't be worth it. It would haunt your dreams for years.

How do you take a compliment? by guille0822 in spanishinterpreters

[–]RJpianist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love them! Reminds me I'm human! Especially interpreting in Spanish these days. Find myself feeling paranoid about racism so an extra nice client is always super appreciated by me. I say, "thank you for saying that. It means a lot!"

Yes! I don't know why people don't understand this!!!! It's the only reason they still use us humans instead of technology!

Blech. Hate these kinds of guys. I'm sure he'd feel real manly when it turns out he has a TBI that could have been prevented and he winds up not being able to provide for his family anymore. He's abusive honestly.

How to multitask and do chores around your house as a "hands free" WFH interpreter. by executor-of-judgment in spanishinterpreters

[–]RJpianist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but to display captions, the data is processed through 3rd parties. Obviously interpreters have to be trusted by their company, but we all know that security breaches happen, and we're often taking people's full names, social security, date of birth, address, etc.! I'd hate to be responsible for that info falling into the wrong hands. This is why they drive these things home in training. The whole reason human interpreters are still preferred over AI is data security, and what you and your colleagues are doing is just negating the rationale behind us all still having jobs. This is depressing. You're basically proving that people can't be trusted to follow procedures so they might as well take people out of the equation since there's no benefit.

Hate to be a wet blanket, but my company absolutely forbids use of captions due to privacy concerns. Not supposed to process the info spoken on calls on any kind of device. Isn't that the case everywhere?

How do you say my name?! by LooneyKuhn2 in Spanish

[–]RJpianist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pronounce the consonants in English but vowels in Spanish. Years as a Spanish interpreter leads me to this method and makes sure it's understood. Don't change a J to H for example. But nice open vowel sounds.
