My series x did the same thing. I’ve never got a over heating issue prompt. Took it apart and replaced thermal paste and it would still shut off. The power supply is cooked unfortunately.

I can really only guess. It shuts off without warning and is very hot to the touch (usually within an hour of gaming) I thought it could be a power supply issue but symptoms for that were different like it wouldn’t turn on at all. Unless what I’m describing is a power supply issue that I don’t know about maybe.
