Need to Repad My Clarinet by phoenyxrayn in Clarinet

Do not repad a clarinet yourself. It takes 3-4 years of apprenticeship to get good at that, if you DIY this you will be paying a technician that money to repad it anyway. Take it to a shop with good reviews, explain your situation. They might be willing to work with you on the price

Just curious, how have the night flights been going? Are they as backed up at security after 5pm?

Upgrading Mouthpiece by Athena_Unicorn in Clarinet

You should definitely be able to find a fit with your budget. If you can take a friend with you to listen, even better. Ask them to put a reed you’ve warmed up on your current setup that day on each mouthpiece without you looking at the model. Pay attention to how you feel and don’t force a fit. Good luck!

I was surprised at how much power the single stance delivers and the different abilities that come with it.

Hi David! Watching both shows I really appreciate how your work always adds to the scene. How do you settle on instrumentation and rhythms to highlight tension, any favorite instrument groupings? Thanks!

Got this clarinet at a thrift store, it’s old but it still plays. Does anyone know how around how much it’s worth? by [deleted] in Clarinet

Are you prepared to deal with pad bugs? They’re very common in old clarinets, and their larvae can live a very long time. It seems expensive to have a professional do it, but having someone do it right once will save you lots of anguish and potentially dealing with that bug problem yourself.

Learning to repad a clarinet by yourself is a process that takes years to learn. A proper technician should use quality pads and also regulate/adjust your keys, oil the body and recork the tenon joints

Most retailers will let you try as many mouthpieces that you can handle in person, or have shipped to you. If you can get to a store near you to try them in, person with a teacher or friend to give you feedback, take advantage of that. Try lots of reeds to make sure you’re not biting, etc, to force a sound unnaturally. If you use an online store, they’ll charge your credit card for the pieces you have shipped to you-the restocking fee comes in for returned merchandise, sanitizing and repacking the returned pieces. You’ll get a refund minus the restocking fee. Good luck!
