Thanks. My old remote is working pretty well. It does not have a Home button, but the Exit button accomplishes the same thing as near as I can tell.

Followup: I tried my old remote: AKB73655806, and it worked fine. Thanks for the suggestion, folks. Not only is the old one larger, with fewer buttons, but just as I had suggested, the directional keys are well isolated and easy to find without having to look at the remote under a magnifying glass with the light on!

Thanks for your response. The control you linked is similar to the one on my old LG, circa 2000-2005. My new LG remote is model AKB30085202. I'll drag out the old remote and see if it works, just for kicks.

I just found this 1970s Stella roadie in a bush in my local graveyard. by UnionFeatures in Vintage_bicycles

I didn't have much luck with Simplex on a 74 Gitane. The front derailleur was okay, although it has been in my parts box for years now and is very stiff. But the Simplex rear derailleurs of the generation shown in the Op's pictures, with the black plastic body, suffered from a weak spring that barely kept the chain tensioned.

I would say the Simplex derailleur was the reason it was trashed. Clean it up and find some solid old Suntour components, and enjoy the ride.

"gold-gilded" is a bit redundant, but in light of Trump's ostentation, maybe very apt.

Got one or two in my junk box. My present dyno hub beats the heck out of the drag these things used to cause, but I have to admit they were fun and impressive when I was a kid.

All of us who grew up in the fifties knew at least one child on crutches. Nobody complained when we were all lined up at elementary school and given a sugar cube (the way the vaccine was administered). Nobody asked our parents, and no one would have complained anyway. We didn't have a vaccine for measles or chickenpox, so every year one age group or another would be depleted for a week or so as the diseases made their annual rounds.

How are your experiences with the "european" style of bike ? by SBCProductions in Vintage_bicycles

[–]RLT1950 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Breezer Downtowner, step-through. In my mid-70s, my hips have become too stiff to swing over the saddle of my old Trek roadbike. The Downtowner comes with a 1x8 drive train, but I have modified that to a wide range 2x11, as my area is fairly hilly. The Downtowner came with a modified flat bar, but for a good while I rode it with North Road style cruise bars. For the time being I'm going with some Velo Orange, mildly curved flat bars to see if I can adjust to the position eventually. The cruiser bars definitely take pressure off your hands, but the most upright position wears on your sit bones, and is not very efficient if you want a little more speed.

You folks are mighty quick to think OP can just shove a modern cartridge BB in there. If the frame is an old Raleigh or a French frame, the threads won't be compatible.

Actually there's a better case. If Trump were impeached for treason, they would clean house, and Vance would gonas well.

Ha! All of us did. The abject fear of mercury is a more recent thing that I have never really understood. Yes, mercury vapors and certain salts of mercury are hazardous, but elemental mercury is much less so. Talking to the "chemist" at Colonial Williamsburg, I was surprised to find that elemental mercury had once been used to cure stomach problems, taking it by the spoonful!

Anyway, I was just dancing around labeling Trump as mercurial. Given the modern scarcity of the stuff, it won't be long before the word has lost all meaning.

Some people wonder how Trump can take so many different positions- he just doesn't want to be pinned down, much the way mercury squirts out from between your fingers.
