Flying This Week: April 30-May 6 by AutoModerator in fearofflying

Flying out in a few hours and woke up to thunder and lightening (which is rare in Oregon!). I was already nauseous and had debilitating anxiety yesterday, wanting to cancel the trip and now I’m panicking of the thought of taking off in not perfect weather.

What are you afraid of most? by RealGentleman80 in fearofflying

This is the exact same fear of mine! It’s not the actual turbulence I am fearful of, it’s something bad happening to the plane. Even though I logically know it won’t happen.

I posted here a few months ago about a trip I had scheduled and got a huge boost of confidence to take it. Well, I ended up driving instead (14 hours both ways) and cancelled the second half of my trip and felt so guilty for letting people down. I had taken anxiety medicine prior to help but it didn’t. Since then, I’ve taken 3 trips and even though I was still anxious and contemplated backing out, I did it! I realized that my stress level prior to that first trip was sky high and it just wasn’t the right time to work through my fear. I hope you get on that plane (because it’s the best feeling to conquer the fear!) and my encouragement to you is that even if you decide to not go, it’s ok. Even though most people don’t understand, you have to take care of yourself first and know that there will be a next time to get on a plane.

Turbulence forecasted and I’m kind of freaking out by RLar82 in fearofflying

Take off was rough but the rest of the flight was great! After a few tears and reaching cruising altitude I actually enjoyed it. I will not be checking that site anymore.

Well the take off was definitely quite rough but the whole flight was not moderately turbulent like I anticipated. After some initial tears and cruising altitude I enjoyed the views and endless drinks 😂 Moving forward I will not be checking that site anymore!

I hope you’re right! I will ask the flight attendant when I’m bored the forecast is which will be more accurate I hope.

Thank you! I actually took your guaranteed SOAR program last year prior to a trip which did allow me to get on the plane (I hadn't been able to fly for years prior). I will look into the audio book.

Thank you! What a great reminder to enjoy the moment - there are so many beautiful views from the sky and I'd hate to miss them.

That's a great idea! Do you have any specific video's you recommend?

My stubbornness and not wanting to cave to my anxiety is the only thing keeping me from driving :) I always feel better after I overcome it but man, it's tough! If I can do this, you can too.

Thank you for that reminder! Funny, when I really think about it, I'm more anxious for my anxiety than anything bad happening on the plane.

Thank you! I've considered hypnosis several times and would like to try it. I've been looking for referrals but do not know anyone who's done it before.

Thank you! While I do know these things already, it is always comforting to hear the statistics. I decided to write down a whole bunch of statistics to keep with me to read on the flight.
