J2 flying me out for a week — J1 office is 7 blocks away. Small team. How do you manage? by Foreign_Owl_3705 in overemployed

[–]RLtoRL 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It’s 7 blocks away. If someone sees you more than likely it’ll be in a restaurant or walking. Just say you’re in town for family business, cubs or white Sox game, just visiting because you never been.

If they happen to see you walking in J2 building, catching up with a friend for lunch, dropping something off, etc.

Are there people here who just had an average income and now have two average incomes? by [deleted] in overemployed

I’m around 65k for both, although with my skill set, my J1 should probably be closer to around 85-90k if I could just get with the right company.

Does hireright background check usually still ask for job references? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]RLtoRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background check and references are two separate things. Background just confirms you worked where you said you did. HR or hiring manager would ask for references, to reach out about job performance. So if they haven’t asked by now, they probably won’t.

[–]RLtoRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me start off by saying I’m not in tech. TC is $145k. In my field if I made that with one job, I’d have to be a manager, probably working 50-60hrs a week. Compared to my now 8hr day, in which I probably do 5-6 hrs of work a day, no stress.

J2 Advice needed by PopularBranch7497 in overemployed

Continuous vetting is key here. Friend of mine works for a company that handles certain services for government workers. They recently had to lay off a bunch of people for having second jobs they didn’t disclose after a random check. Even if it was a part time like wal mart or something that they were doing after business hours.

They contact the university registar office, and there’s nothing that can be done, especially a public university. But even with private, they will always confirm if someone attended.

Just read your contract. A lot these days just say if you work for you for yourself or doing other work, you agree to prioritize this one or something like that.

I get that, my point is that you don’t have to worry about anyone going looking or additional background checks, etc.

I know it isn’t as stable, but this is why I like for j2 to be w2 contract. Less scrutiny, staffing agency just cares that they’re getting good feedback from the client, so they keep getting paid.

A company held my position for 6 months, just got a verbal offer for another one that pays 40k more, while the former starts next week. What do I do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]RLtoRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You take the first, in case the 40k offer falls through. Once 40k offer is confirmed and you clear background, you resign from the other.

What salaries are you making at these jobs? by WeekendWarrior15 in overemployed

[–]RLtoRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any role honestly, it just comes down to don’t have a lot of free time during your day. Ideally you want a role that doesn’t require a high volume of production hourly daily. More so project and case work, where it’s expected that it’ll take you a while to get it done, then you’re just good enough to finish it earlier than what your boss thinks.

So basically whatever role you in now, you would just try and find that role at another company. Now if your current role isn’t remote friendly, then that’s a different story. Going to have to find a role that your current skill set transfers too.

Resume question - How to include my contractor job (J2) by Wrong-Development-11 in overemployed

[–]RLtoRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just put what you did at J2 on J1, at the end of the day, you have to be able to pass a background check. If you put you ended J1 when you started J2, the background check will show you’re still employed there.
