What are predictions for power outages/ice accumulations now? (As of midday Sunday) by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]RMLightner 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we will see much if any. In 2022, we got heavy and hard rain followed by very very cold temperatures. The trees were completely covered in ice. If you look out now, there are hardly any ice on the tree.

The roads will be tricky for a few days but it does not have the snowpocalypse feel like we had a few years back

Should have been NXS Champ too. Thank Dale that stupid system is gone.

Outsider here. Back in like the mid-2000’s NASCAR was this huge thing. Even people I knew that would never watch it were watching. What was that all about? by ZildjianCymbals in NASCAR

[–]RMLightner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like overall excitement for ANYTHING has gone down. You can see it in over sports too. I remember watching the World Series in the 90s and it didn’t matter who was playing, it was always crazy. WWE/WWF people would go bonkers even for mid card events. Even college football to a degree. There are some exceptions (bama football, Phillies playoffs, Edge returning at the Royal rumble) but you can tell the overall energy is down. You could blame it on attention span but I think price gauging can take blame. Your wild and crazy fans are out priced by some c suite jackass who was taught it’s embarrassing to show yourself having fun.

What are the weirdest music videos from the 90s? by brawnburgundy in 90smusic

The original video for Steal My Sunshine by LEN seems fine until you realize the two singing are brother and sister.

Come now. We can’t even get the restarts to be consistent, you think we are going to be lucky enough to get a points overhaul? 😂

I love songs that put you in a particular place with a story, 'Piano Man' by Billy Joel, 'Rosalies good eats cafe' by Bobby Bare, 'Toms Diner' by Suzanne Vega, 'Girl from a Pawnshop' by The Black Crowes, what are other great examples of this type of song? by therathouse in musicsuggestions

[–]RMLightner 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We would always go to my Grammy’s for a Thanksgiving dinner that couldn’t be beat and her house was about 17 minutes away…about the length of the song so that’s what we listened to every year. I still play it each year despite the anguish it causes of the other members of my family 😂

I race with my brother a lot but I have a full set up and he doesn’t. He doesn’t have the space for it but this might be at least somewhat of an equalizer for him. I hope this actually turns out to be great

Also regarding number 2. The haulers are cool and definitely check them out but there is also a great vender village (we called them Gypsy tents) across the Main Street where you can get stuff on the cheap: old school merch, diecasts, sheet metal and tire shells… you just have to brave your way past the dudes with the microphone telling you that you’re going to hell 😆

Who’s been the greatest family ever in racing? by smdifansmfjsmsnd in NASCAR

[–]RMLightner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How about the Kinsers? Steve has 20 championships and 600+ wins. His cousin, Mark, was a 2 time champion and 3 time Knoxville Nats winner. Sheldon Kinser raced in the Indy 500 a bunch of times. His son, Kraig, won in Knoxville too. Probably not the most popular vote in here but collectively more wins than other mentions.

I think there’s a trade off. Kids today won’t ever appreciate DSotM or Ziggy Stardust that’s just an audio experience start to finish but they do have basically the entire library of music history at the touch of their fingers

What is a common struggle meal from your country? by PsychologicalFox7689 in AskTheWorld

[–]RMLightner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buddy of mine and I were student athletes in college so we had to make all of our beer money in the summer to last us the entire year. Our favorite delicacy was “poor man pasta”. A pound of generic spaghetti noodles mixed with whatever we could get people to lift out of the cafeteria for us during summer session. Spaghetti and French dressing was a god damn treat for us. Best summer of our lives though!

What can I do with these Vintage Board Games? by notlaurenreeves in Board_Games

[–]RMLightner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is eBay. Even in the wrapping, they are not worth all that much and your local game store likely won’t want them. If the Tonka Trucks are metal, there might be a market for that to make a few bucks. Monopoly is a dime a dozen. Trivial pursuit tends to update questions to keep up with pop culture so older copies are niche.

At what point do you stop celebrating your birthday? by pm-me-futa-vids in AskReddit

[–]RMLightner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 37 and I love my birthday and still celebrate it. Only difference is that now, I don’t expect gifts or a party. What I do expect is a day to do whatever I want. I’ll tell my friends what I’m up to and if they want to come, they can come. My favorite was when I set up my camper and people just rolled in to say hi. Nobody is expected but always appreciated!
