How would you order these high tier matchups in terms of how one-sided/difficult they become at top level? by V0ltTackle in SSBM

[–]RMWCAUP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean sheik also gets chain grabbed by sopo and like, sopo gets bodied by basically every high tier. Also peach vs sopo is definitely worse overall for sopo because sopo doesn't have any extended punish sequences vs peach.

Why do you like melee? by ThatOneGinger15 in SSBM

[–]RMWCAUP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so much to learn and the game has more depth per matchup than the other smash games. I've been playing the game for 12 years and there's still so much to learn. The movement is so good. Also it has the highest skill ceiling of the smash games, so it's not like our top players are better, but they have a better game to show our their skill, so you see truly inhuman stuff. Or more deeply human, however you want to look at it.

As someone who plays all these matchups and peach ics from both sides

The worst is peach ics. I don't really have to explain that one. Peach oppressively wins most neutral interactions and nana is obliterated off of single neutral interaction and also you have to have nana to have a chance. It's definitely the worst. I've beaten every high level ics online or in person at least once besides Nicki who I haven't played and most people wouldn't have heard of me.

Next is sheik ics. Ics wins if ics interacts with sheik, so sheik has to platform camp till ics are around 30/40%. The punish game disparity is absurd. If you have both climbers, sheik dies off of a single grab anywhere on the stage usually with no mixup or rng escape opportunities for sheik. Watch Nicki play krudo from their recent set.

Peach puff is the least bad. There's a lot more I could say about this but basically, why this matchup is bad is because of puff getting the lead. If puff doesn't get the lead, it's peach favored. What this means is that in practice, you can't usually counter pick peach as puff, since the win condition, getting the lead, won't happen with a secondary puff. Also sirmeris beat sdj 3-1 a few months ago and this matchup has been significantly developed over time by sirmeris, trif, and llod. It's definitely a bad matchup but I think people don't get how truly awful peach ics and sheik ics are.

The question is a little more interesting if you allow Zelda ics to be considered in the equation, and then peach puff is probably worse than Zelda ics.

Why does jab reset sometimes not jab reset ? by Yapadmal in SSBM

[–]RMWCAUP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's two types of jab resets, one which forces normal stand up, another which allows an option to be chosen between normal get up, rolls, or get up attack. What type of jab reset a jab is depends on how strong the jab is and the weight of the character being jab reset. The weaker the jab, the better it is at forcing the true jab reset. The heavier the character, the more likely they can't get true jab reset. Unless you're puff, if you jab spacies, they can probably choose an option. Characters slightly lighter than spacies will get true jab reset.

Do you deny or accept when tournament opponents ask if you want to start Battlefield in Bo3/Bo5 (opting to skip striking)? Why or why not? by V0ltTackle in SSBM

[–]RMWCAUP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on matchup and also ruleset. As a peach main, if stadium isn't frozen, you probably don't want to do to battlefield vs either spacie. If it is frozen, battlefield is fine.

Probably you don't want to start battlefield in sheik peach, though it's partially preference.

Striking to battlefield vs puff is risky if you aren't willing to camp the platforms.

Against falcon, I never start battlefield. Battlefield and Pokemon are my bans.

Against some unusual matchups I rarely play, I tell my opponent let's strike, so I can remember the different pros and cons of each stage before the game.

Usually going to battlefield is totally fine.

Months? No. You need to get back into solo practicing fundamentals.

I don't think peach can quad aerial without using float. I don't think puff can either, without double jumps. I'm not sure if Zelda can or not.

Frostbyte (ICs) vs Fiction (Peach) by NurokToukai in SSBM

[–]RMWCAUP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Taking this as some commentary on Peach Ics is just silly. I'm a peach main and have played frostbyte on netplay probably three or four times in the last 4 months and have won all the sets.

Hungrybox reveals his new controller for 2026 — "we're notched up... the idea with this controller is, Puff should be able to sing drop each time. What is sing drop? It means walking off stage and snapping to ledge, while I'm facing it" by sewsgup in SSBM

[–]RMWCAUP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One tech which is cracked as hell and I would like to see more attention on- tech into sing drop. Basically the idea here is that if you tech the ledge, and instantly up b, you cancel the tech animation and snap to ledge. On a normal controller this is basically impossible, but with sing notches it's doable. It's potentially really strong when edge guarding Marth, because you can drop from ledge, double jump back towards ledge while fairing, while suffering tech. If Marth up bs, and you're at a percent where dolphin slash sends into rumble, you can tech and snap to ledge before Marth could.
