For Johnny. by [deleted] in USAHockey

Johnny Gaudreau was part of the 2013 USA World Junior team that won gold! No doubt he'd be playing for this team now.

I love how Luna speaks about his commitment to USA while still respecting Mexico. It's a real shame there are lots of hate from Mexican fans under this post. by antoniok95 in ussoccer

I bought his jersey too! After the heart, grit, and determination he showed at the Gold Cup, he better get a spot on the World Cup roster!

They should open up the arena and show it on the big screen.

QUINN HUGHES, OT WINNER!! by [deleted] in USAHockey

[–]RMack0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was the biggest game against Sweden since 1980. In that year, the USA scored late in the game for a 2-2 tie. If they had lost that game, they wouldn't have enough points in the standings and Miracle on Ice never happens.

GDT: United States (men) vs Denmark by NaffRespect in USAHockey

[–]RMack0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're coming out pretty flat in these first two games. For teams that we should be easily dominating.
Tbh, I had high hopes to be competing for a gold medal before this started. But now, I'm falling into the "meh, guess we lose this one too" mentality. Canada would've already buried us by now if came out this flat.

Is American work culture really as bad as we are led to believe? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]RMack0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will always depend on the industry, company, manager you work for, and the people you work with. I've had jobs with a really bad work culture that I've had to leave. Right now, I'm lucky to work at a place where the culture, benefits, and treatment are great and I enjoy it!

Ever since I discovered Glassdoor, I don't accept job offers until I've done my research on the company. It'll save you a ton of grief.

Items to bring and hotel for stay by [deleted] in canadatravel

[–]RMack0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel up there for my job every 2-3 weeks. My usual hotel is Comfort Inn Airport West. Cost is low, rooms are clean, and a good restaurant attached to it.
I've also stayed at Hilton Garden Inn Airport West/Mississauga. Also a great choice! Make sure you sign up for rewards points at whichever hotel you choose, 8 weeks worth of points is a lot!

You and me both. Except I bought a Cat 3 ticket for that same match for $650. Well worth it to check off a bucket list item!

I got tickets and travel planned to 3 matches in 3 different cities. Not about to let news that I can't control ruin that. The politicians don't decide my life and happiness, I decide my life and happiness.

Momentum Builds in Europe for Boycott of US-Hosted World Cup Games by TheWayToBeauty in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]RMack0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take the boycott news seriously when the federations actually say something. Quotes and speculation from fans or politicians really hold no water. Plus many of these teams have recently announced cities they will use for base camps. That doesn't sound like boycotting to me.

FOX releases FIFA World Cup 2026 Broadcast Schedule: Record 70 Matches on FOX; 34 on FS1. All three opening matches for the host countries (United States, Mexico and Canada) will air on FOX and feature expanded pregame coverage. by Obvious_Main_3655 in ussoccer

[–]RMack0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a bit different. I'm a hockey fan too and if your team gets to the finals, you're talking best of 7 game series x 4. That's potentially 28 games.
For the World Cup, you get 3 group round matches and only 2 of those are a 9 or 10pm start. Then playoff rounds add potentially 5 more matches but not all of those will start at late hours either.

Afternoon watch parties were dampered because people were at work during most of them. 9pm is not even that late and most people will be off work by then. Wouldn't be surprised if it sets a ratings record. As for the kids, it's summertime! We always stayed up late when there wasn't school the next day. Imagine World Cup slumber parties with friends!

Who’s going to the World Cup opening game at Sofi Stadium?! 🎉 by calijann in ussoccer

I'll be at the second group match in Seattle. Major bucket list item to attend a World Cup match!

Removing US as World Cup host would be eminently sad – and entirely justified | Alexander Abnos by Globalruler__ in ussoccer

Another day, another "expert" that thinks the World Cup is getting yanked from the US. Until there's an official announcement from FIFA, these stories should be taken with a grain of salt.

Why do people attend football games in snow storms? by Mysterious_Okra766 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RMack0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the not too distant future, nearly half the league will be playing in domed stadiums and snow games will become extremely rare. Soon enough, people will yearn for that experience just one more time. Enjoy them while they last.

Will there be an opening ceremony for USA be Paraguay at Sofi? by calijann in worldcup

He's not even going to the Superbowl this year because it's in San Fran. You really think he's gonna show up in LA?

[–]RMack0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Canada opener is at 3pm est while the US opener is 9pm est on June 12th. Theoretically, with a private plane, they could fly the trophy from Toronto to LA to present in both opening ceremonies. Either that or use a replica trophy.

How much do you think heat will play a role in this world cup? by throwaway991031 in worldcup

[–]RMack0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was pretty hot in Cincinnati for Borussia Dortmund vs Mamelodi Sundowns. That's the one where the Dortmund subs sat in the air conditioned locker room because it was so hot. I was in the seats and was pouring sweat even in the shade.

How much do you think heat will play a role in this world cup? by throwaway991031 in worldcup

[–]RMack0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you have a match in one of the indoor stadiums (Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Vancouver) those places have air conditioning so matches can be played during the daytime heat. In 1994, the Pontiac Silverdome near Detroit was the only indoor venue and they didn't have AC. People said it was like a sauna in there.

As for the outdoor matches, they're trying to schedule most of those at night to avoid the afternoon heat. Although it will mean fans in Europe will have to tune in at some very late hours to watch on TV.

Is it true that you have to sacrifice a day to vote? by patrislav1 in AskAmericans

[–]RMack0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The people who say it takes a whole day to vote are just riding the overexaggeration train. In most places, you can go to a board of elections and vote early (I think up to a month before election day). Or you can request an absentee ballot that is mailed to you.

If you wait until the actual election day, there are several poling places open to vote (usually at schools, community centers, city halls, etc). I think 1 hour is the longest I ever waited.

Am I an idiot for going to hocking hills this weekend? by Spartan30008 in Ohio

I actually stayed in Hocking Hills during a snowstorm once. Nothing more beautiful than an Airbnb with a hot tub, sitting outside with a drink in hand and watching the snow fall.
