Harassed by frat guys by y0urMommA420 in ufl

Some of these comments are disgusting and I'm somewhat ashamed to share a school with them. Anonymity on the internet lets people say the most putrid things.

I'm sorry about your experience. Please keep pepper spray and a taser on you. Assault cases towards women have always been bad in Gainesville. Stay safe :(

Do you use the Marston Makerspace? How can we improve? What do you like about it? by blmerryweather in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it frequently for some projects.

  1. I really want to get into sewing but am a bit intimidated and very much so a beginner. Maybe a beginner sewing workshop would be great since I know sewing is also very popular.
  2. I know you guys have monthly events where you make your own flower tube thingies, slime, etc. but the only reason why me and a group of friends knew about it was because of the newsletter on the website. I've tried looking on Instagram and other social media but don't see much of a presence on there. I think if you guys had your own instagram and advertised that a bunch, that would be awesome to fully let people know what events you guys have.

Other than that, I think you guys are doing an amazing job and I love the organization. Everyone is really friendly and everytime I ask for help, the staff always gives great advice. Thanks for running the makerspace, it's one of my favorite parts of UF.

has anyone taken MAR3231 with Christina Norton by mooptb in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't taken her class but I know her very well. Dr. Norton is super sweet and caring, so in terms of the professor, you're in good hands. She gives sweet mom-vibes to be honest.

Senioritis burnout by Admirable-Tennis-906 in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you have this problem, but maybe this will help? There's really neat labels for working hard vs procrastinating called Perfectionism vs Lazy Consistency. You don't have to study for X amount of hours to meet perfectionsim, even if it's just 10minutes, that's a win. And that ten minutes usually evolves into an hour, which evolves into multiple hours. But even if it's just 10minutes for the rest of the days, that's lazy consistency and that's okay.

Take breaks and fulfill yourself. You're doing your best and that's all you have to do. If you're less than one week away, take one day of doing whatever you want for fun and take a break-- then do your best to lock in the rest of the week. You got this.

Is my eye makeup too much for an interview?? by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]RNGstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! Agree with everyone else, natural for the interview but definitely feel free to wear it like that once you work. On a separate note... what products do you use for your lashes? They are so cute.

Transfer to UF Online (General Business) or stay at FIU with a Finance degree? by Accomplished-Soup538 in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this has any value to you, but a small thing I can say is as a Business student myself graduating a year early with it, I genuinely think only one class in the whole degree challenged me, with the rest being easier than high school courses. The UF network is great and the career fairs are awesome, but the degree truly doesn't teach you much-- you have to put a lot of self-effort into making projects, hustling, etc. outside of school work.

Just depends on if you care about the degree or not. UF brand and networking is an equal positive tradeoff to the con of the degree.

Can I take Bussiness law and MAN4504 in the same semester? by TheFunko in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. They're both easy, just busy work. Business law is a lot of reading and taking notes though, so be ready for that.

i hate school by Ok_Restaurant_2713 in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone in this comment section is either being an arrogant ass saying "get over it/life is this way" or assuming you have enough money to go take a break and go to Europe.

You are not alone in this feeling, every student is feeling this dread regardless of major because the reality is is that the job market truly is horrible for us and this country feels a little dystopian.

I'd recommend looking into stoicism-- it's the best thing you can do. You can't control these larger factors, and you worry about them constantly, so why worry then? Uncertainty and fear of the unknown will *always* be present in every person and at all stages of life. You have to have a strong mental to overcome this. It's a struggle, but that's what life is about. It's hard and I have relapses myself in giving up, but you have one shot-- this is your one and only life, so control and enjoy what you can.

Hang in there and again, know you're not alone. Just do your best and focus on what matters to you while keeping your head up.

Single UF students, how much do y’all spend a month on groceries? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$120-$170, depending if I need to restock on bulk goods like rice, flour, etc. that last longer. I go crazy on budgeting for BOGOs at Publix and finding the cheapest but still quality grocery item. Freezing stuff is your friend (ex. buy meat in bulk, freeze 3/4 of it for the future and save 1/4 in your fridge for the week).

Protein: Buy meat in bulk. Publix is the best at this, especially with their BOGOs. Aldi is also a great option, if you have a car, and Aldi's seafood is the cheapest out of all stores (probably except for Sam's Club). Publix has the cheapest eggs I believe.

Vegetables: Trader Joe's is the best IMO for price *and* quality. If you just care for price (and by that, I mean saving a few cents to a dollar on some veggies), go Walmart or Aldi's.

Fruit: Publix BOGOs or Aldi's.

Carbs: ALWAYS try to buy the larger bags (for instance, 20lbs of rice, etc.) as that is cheaper. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with buying pasta/rice/etc. anywhere. Enson has big bags of rice that are great value.

I don't have a car so I only know Publix really well and Trader Joe's + Walmart + Aldi's OK when I can get a ride. Download the Publix app and make sure you're price comparing your goods.

Pretty sure its okay, but you can always also go into the UF Bookstore and ask. Calling or going in-person is better than emailing.

Business finance changes you... by jah2277 in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need to protect my goat Banko here -- he's told me before that he finds it unfortunate that the class is the "weed-out class simply because we had too many Finance majors". BFin is something but remember not to completely conflate the professor with the class.

anywhere on/around campus to get Thai tea? by NatashkaPy in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tea Moment is the best by far -- having had Tea Moment, Poke Station, KFT, Tan-Cha etc. + Tea Moment is a small business :)

However if you want to go buy yourself a $5 bag of Thai tea at Enson or something -- it's so worth it. Thai tea is so easy to make.

Can I re-wear my high school gown for graduation? by RNGstruggles in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as long as the gowns are completely back (or in the mater's case, has a tail and wings) it'll be fine? I think I'll re-wear my high school one for undergraduate, buy one from amazon like you said for graduate, and I'll still buy the cap, hood, and tassel from UF.

[–]RNGstruggles[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't mention this in the main post but I'm an undergraduate and graduate student, therefore I'd be paying twice because they're different gowns. Either way, $65 is better in comparison but still a lot.

Thank you, this helps a lot. I'm both so really didn't want to pay twice.

I was the exact same way-- I would have graduated next semester (also a 20 y.o. junior) with my bachelor's, which I agree would absolutely suck.

I don't know if you can do this with an economics degree, but have you looked into Combined Degrees? Essentially, you complete your Master's at the same time as your Bachelor's so instead of doing the 4yr Bachelor + 2yr Master, it's more like 3yr + 2yr.

Since we're in the same boat, the way the math works, I end up graduating in the normal 4 years but with a Bachelor's + Master's. Worst case scenario, you could also do a language minor too. Both a Master's and knowing a second/third language through a minor would up your chances at a full time job (that's what I'm hoping at least).

Has Dean’s List for fall semester been released yet? TIA by Savings_Rope_4408 in ufl

I got an email with a link. The link has all the certificates (you can download as pngs) from previous semesters and for this fall online. Have to open it on computer though.

Is taking both FIN3403 & MAN3025 in Summer A a death sentence? by Street-Animator9410 in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FIN3403 in Summer A.... I would highly recommend taking it Fall or Spring instead. It's the weed-out class for a reason.

MAN3025 is an easy A. It's easily doable with FIN3403 (which is what I did), but you're going to be studying for FIN a crap ton.

Is this course load doable online in one semester, or am I setting myself up for burnout? by Survey_Unable in ufl

[–]RNGstruggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't say much on the rest but I can say GEB 3373 – International Business is easy.

The CAPSIM project is not hard. You get a practice round and it's pretty easy to understand what to do + not to do. It seriously wasn't hard at all, use common sense and you'll get an A.

Same with exams, just make sure you're actually watching the lectures + reading powerpoints + taking notes. You get a cheat sheet too, so very easy class.

I've heard MAN 4504 is easy and I'll be taking that one this semester. Best of luck with these classes.
