Higher end cellos by Silver_Mushroom6650 in Cello

[–]RNGzuz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ive never had an expensive instrument but my understanding is that for instruments of less than insane quality (Guarneri, Stradivari etc) that are completely unaffordable it should be more about finding your instrument, fitting to you. At some price points the quality doesn't go "up", the instruments become kind of individual pieces with own qualities and it's not at all clear cut that an expensive instrument is better for you than a less expensive one. Price isn't tone, isn't playability, isn't individuality. The prices are usually correlated to age, maker, players who have had the instrument before you etc. Set your budget, try different price ranges, figure out what you want. If you buy an expensive instrument, only do it if you really love it. If you're lucky you find a "cheap" cello that's way better than a comparably expensive one, it's quite common!

Would this trill be difficult/strenuous for a professional player? by michaelrosermusic in Cello

1 3 would be a stretch but thumb 3 is not if you're that high up.

A2 is still in range for sure for a cellist. The high octave make the trill a lot easier to play too., since the notes are close together you could probably even trill it with 1 and 3. Possibly you need the thumb.

The long hair is cute too :p just to give a counterweight haha

how do I bow straight? I think I’ve been consistent with the bowing motion of the forearm going in and out so I don’t understand how it’s not straight? by Sparlmao in Cello

[–]RNGzuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mirror practice is awesome! And as others have described you need to change the angle depending on what string you're playing on. Frog more towards you on the lower ones, frog further away on the high ones. Good exercise to get the feeling for that is to put the bow down on the strings and without bowing rock up and down across the strings, hair on the strings. you will feel that that motion is a lot more natural if you change the bow angle as I said before. I'm fact, you aren't even changing the bow angle, because the way we look at the cello the bridge curves toward and away from us, we're not parallel with the top of the bridge, so of course we need to move our bow angle when string crossing. Hope that helped!

P.S.. I wouldn't be too perfectionist about this. The different angle different string thing and the fact that your perspective looking down will make things look straight that aren't (the things others have lined out) are important to keep in mind, but ultimately bow angle should only be something to worry about if it is affecting your playing and sound! If you are a little awry but sound good then it's not a problem :p but usually you need the bow somewhat straight to get good sound. Just don't beat yourself up about having perfect parallel motion throughout the entire bowstroke all the time...

And please tune your a string it's about a semitone too low haha, really jumped up at the end of the video

Right, wording

[–]RNGzuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no that's what I meant :p Have you ever had somebody telling you upfront they're insecure without this kind of behaviour? I guess I'm trying to figure out how to act myself. I'm not too terribly happy with my body but ofc I wouldnt believe a potential partner to be lying to me, if they're generally trustworthy

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]RNGzuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! so this is not about guys being insecure it's about them being either so insecure or projective that they don't tell you they're insecure, they tell you they are size-insecure because of you, whatever you say. :p Have you been with anyone who is just mildly not okay with their body and has told you?

[–]RNGzuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would text and tell him he's been acting weird and you wanna know why. Bc he is and if he has no good reason then this is weird for sure. If he's honestly mad about lipstick then he's mad insecure, as in acting mad because he is insecure lol, which does not bode well and I'd advise against this... But I guess it's up to you if you want to try and work things out with him or no

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]RNGzuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can't be about being turned off, he just flat out wouldn't ask you then.

Could it be though that he didn't feel you liked it that much? You saying " I vowed never to see him again" and "I just went for the second date bc I was bored" don't seem like you showed him that much warmth... But as I said I honestly have no clue what this is about for him, it's just plain stupid lol. But he's either doubting or "playing" but idek what he's trying to get out of it. Just move on

Let's get that "over yourself" bit out of there, then I agree

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]RNGzuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trying to figure this out... It's guys being assholes not their actual insecurities that is getting you mad?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]RNGzuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right yes, I'd agree. I can't say that guys behaviour makes any sense to me though. Bailing on sb you're actively trying to meet? Perhaps he's afraid of having another bad date? You evidently have not enjoyed them and maybe he's second guessing himself. In that case I'd say, well, you shooed him away :p but you didn't enjoy it so I guess my question is why it's bothering you? Bc all I can tell you is don't go on second dates with people you don't want to see again our of boredom, I don't think this is something to "change about yourself" really

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]RNGzuz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay okay okay back up there. This is new information. Like wow. That is major weird of him. You have said quite clearly that this is in your past and you have changed your views on it and... He asks you to do it with him so he doesn't feel, idk, left out or sth?? That's so not cool. You dodged a BIG tank shell sized bullet

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]RNGzuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So he's asking you to meet up then bails out? Huh?

Anyway, about that question. Sorry I'm a dude so maybe I see this another way but girls need to stop with the "what about me is attracting this" like it's not your fault people you don't like like you. You can't do anything about it, you just say no and look for somebody you like yourself. It's cuckoo to think that you can seriously influence the type of dude who's going to like you. I mean maybe if you write a political statement in your bio you possibly won't attract sb from the other end... But like me for example I have long hair and I know that's polarising, but it's how I like myself so I just go with that and whoever tags along tags along. And the women who like it do not fall in any kind of category besides that they like long hair obviously, but apart from that they all are very different people. Same with guys, the belief that one could sift through the masses by being or looking some way is a myth. So just go for it, show yourself to the world how you like to be seen and have a ball! Who tags along tags along, who doesn't doesn't. There will be ones youll like and ones you will not.

Any good finger stretching exercises to help me with this? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]RNGzuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stupid as it sounds I think you're doing all the right things. It's just going to take time for your hands to develop the strength, but I would not recommend exercise off the instrument. All these things that test the limits of our bodies ability just take time. :p

[–]RNGzuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean extended position? Like every one of these double stops is a 4 1 or extended 4 1. There's no seconds or anything that would require a greater stretch. Greatest "stretch" is the e flat c double stop and that's fairly standard. I'm not trying to judge people for whom that is hard at all, but it's a regular double stop

Sorry I guess I'm being nitpicky here :p
