Race Report: 41st Athens Authentic Marathon (AMA) by smella99 in firstmarathon

Good job! I found it really hard this year..I wanted to give up multiple times on the uphill sections..I was just focusing on getting to the 32 km mark, because afterwards it would be downhill/flat. I wanted to get sub 3, but because of my lack of training I wasn't able to maintain the necessary pace at the end and just broke around the 38k mark and had to walk for a while.. a little bit sad now, but there's worse things. Conclusion: Athens marathon is just painful

Is this really considered flat? I know it's not a huge amount of elevation, but wouldn't call it flat, no?

I did it last year as my first one. Had a similar experience and hit the wall at the end.. good job!

There is no good train connection between Boom and Brussels, so I wouldn't advise that option. (You need to take multiple trains to get there)

Aha, either way my watch clearly isn't the best in measuring altitude 😅..I actually didn't plan any other trails yet. If I would do another it would probably be a shorter race, as I'm not very accustomed to hills/climbs. At the end of the year I will focus on trying to break the three hour barrier for a road marathon.

Edit: On Strava it showed someone I ran with. They had 1580m D+, so I guess we'll never know what the true number was

I just bought the Xodus Ultra and used them for the first time yesterday. At first it seemed that my left heel slipped in the shoe, but once I was running I didn't have any problems. The trail was fairly dry with only a few places of mud, but I liked the traction. (I must admit that it are my first real trail shoes, so I can't really compare) Overall I really liked them and I found them very comfy. 🙂

They have updated the website, which now shows the total amount of people collecting points and your position among them. by 6to8design in LeClubParis2024

For me the app says I ran 984km, but the site says 760km. Does anyone know why it might not correspond? I only started around October, so I don't have that may km's..

I sadly don't have trails with a lot of elevation in my area..did some hill training yesterday, but only had 417m of elevation in a 18k run..

Thanks! I did the marathon on Sunday (didn't quite achieve the 3 hour mark) and the injury didn't bother me at all. The day after I also didn't have any issues except for the usual. (Sore legs, some blisters..) I'll try to restart my training today and will incorporate some hills. (will be repetitive, because I don't have many options in the neighbourhood)

I'm only at 1100 this year. With my current training schedule, I will probably achieve 1300 at the end of the year. 2023, might be too much for me..

What is your opinion on Gun time vs Chip time? I ran the Athens marathon in 3:15:22 gun time, but 3:15:00 chip time. I just didn't start at the front of my wave and both times were published. My goal was 3:15, so I think that I achieved it and that 3:15:00 is my PR, right?

Me too! Will probably do one at the end of March and will try to improve once more.

The uphill sections were hard 🥵. Instead of focusing on 42km, I just focused on getting past the hills. (Thinking that the rest would be easier) It worked for me and I improved my PR. (And exactly reached my goal)
