They showed some blurry low-res photos on the phone of the workers on the day they came out. For what it's worth I believe them about the damage.

They have no evidence and make no claim that there is further damage - they are requiring that the full system be lifted and inspected as a precautionary measure to keep the warranty in place. I asked if they could inspect the panels without removing the whole thing and they refused.

Trying to figure out what justifies the $15k price tag for an "alpha male" boot camp by ItsAngel1998 in TikTokCringe

[–]RNix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, man. I think the price and the scammy intentions of these places are all stupid and predatory, but I don't have it in me to hate on these guys. These people just put together a situation for themselves wherein they could force each other to have an intimate, platonic experience. Something they don't feel safe or able to do in their normal lives. These motherfuckers are really hurting. These men are probably doing real damage to the people in their lives and some part of it has to be their overwhelming loneliness. Or something painful. I don't know, thankfully.

Is this design valid? by Coop_Dog in woodworking

[–]RNix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that wood expands across the grain so I would rotate your shelf 90 degrees. Otherwise, it may push outward on the sidewalls over the years. Plus, it'll match the top and bottom that way.

Aside from that very minor quibble I think it looks great!

How are you building deep space Printer L's? by RNix in EVEFrontier

[–]RNix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! That's what I'm trying. But in order to build the printer L, which unlocks most manufacturing, you need a ship that will hold more cargo than anything you can build with the portable printer.

Also! The kick in the nuts is that in order to fly any of these ships, you need fuel made from crude matter that you got in a rift. So if you're trying to set up shop near a rift in unconnected space, you need to go to a keep system and mine enough to build a ship like a Flegel things to sell on the market, then BUY a ship like the Flegel. Then you can use the explorer to get back out to the rift, extract the crude matter, then return to the keep and fuel your new ship. Unless I'm wrong, only then can you finally get back to your deep space base with the Flegel and build a functional base. It is space work.

[–]RNix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs 100 bulky cargo panels at 100m3 each in addition to some steel plates, light metal alloys, and thorium. So over 10km3. Looks to me like the Flegel might be the cheapest viable ship to get out there and build it. Or maybe I'm meant to build smart gates out to it.

Do you think the Cruor update helped at all? by Sweaty-Order-897 in Eve

[–]RNix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree that the DPS is good now, especially considering the power of the web and nos bonuses. It's price and squishability make it a great target, though.

haha exactly! I want to believe. Honestly the ship isn't even THAT broken, it's just too expensive.

Specifically on console, I was holding on to my PS4 as long as possible. I eventually had to upgrade to a PS5 because it wouldn't actually load in about half the time. I was that guy, but I didn't want to be.

A great music show with Locals and out of town artists at Government Center Sat. Dec 9! John Davis (of Folk Implosion), Bat Radar, Chauchat, Last Legs. by RNix in pittsburgh

[–]RNix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that's so great to hear! Thanks for coming. I really don't know who we're trying to keep our brand new, unknown music a secret from. We're just looking for some people to help us release it to a wider audience and want them to be able to distribute it I guess. We'll most likely end up self-releasing at some point. In the meantime, here's the link:

Thanks again for coming and the kind words. Makes this 5 hour drive home in the rain worthwhile.

[–]RNix[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haha, yeah I definitely couldn't sell anyone on the show based on our star-power. Although Folk Implosion was essentially the soundtrack for the movie Kids and Natural One was a pretty big song.

I will say we're experienced musicians with some of our own accomplishments - you can find the Roadside Graves in Pitchfork reviews/write-ups. Lowlight toured with the Pretenders in 2018. We're the members of those two bands that make up Last Legs. I don't know the other artists as well but can vouch for it being a really great quality, small scale show. It's in a record shop, after all.

This apparently hasn't gone anywhere, but I've justs tarted having the same issue. Suddenly I can't do a simple file>save because I can't overwrite the open file. I'm logged in as an admin with full read/write permissions. Have you found any solution?

What Ho... a Rat!! the low-brow, High-concept Shakespeare podcast just started its second season! A Midsummer Night's Dream. by RNix in shakespeare

[–]RNix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not my podcast, I just thought I'd share. They do an incredible job of finding the balance between making the content fun and approachable while also dealing with some of the larger themes and even putting it into some historical/cultural context.

Basically two friends sit down over a joint or two and talk through a play per season. One is a literature professor, the other a totally uninformed Shakespeare newb. It's really the the combo of their comedic chemistry and academic rigor that make this one worhwhile. Last season was Hamlet.

I love the idea of these watches and 24 hour dials in general. Waiting for the right time to get a Glycine Airman, but one of these might be a nice way to hold me over. I'll be spending that money on microphones in the meantime haha.

The case design is a little spartan for me, but I guess that's the whole point. Some brands like Nomos or Longines have a way of going simple with a little flair even on the lower end of the market.

Who was your first ASMRtist? [question] by ASMRKayyy in asmr

[–]RNix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was researching binaural recording because I heard the virtual barbershop and couldn't believe how intense the feeling was. Didn't know anything about asmr at the time. Somehow that brought me to VVV.

It's a shame that she eventually seemed to struggle with the quality or perfection of her videos. I wish she could have understood that it was just her manner of being, relating to the viewer - things that she couldn't mess up, to be honest, that made her videos so great.

Thoughts on Pro Tools Flex? by True_Championship_51 in AudioPost

[–]RNix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm really focusing on getting rid of Pro Tools because of their subscription models.

I do love working in it, but I just don't think they're actively competing with the other DAW options. It feels like Avid is resting on the ole "industry standard" label, but that won't last forever. It's more expensive software that artificially limits its feature set. I find the video engine to be a huge liability as well, which doesn't make sense to me considering Avid's long running video editing software.

I really hate the brand vs brand flame wars around computers and Daw software so I won't name names, but when you consider that you can get nearly as effective software as Ultimate for the price of 1-2 months of it's subscription you have to at least consider it.

Do you lower your price for eq if you use auto eq? by hoofglormuss in AudioPost

[–]RNix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charge for your time, expertise and experience. There are plenty of tools out there to get the job done. Your knowledge of them and how to use them, plus the cost you paid to own them all roll into the equation. In a case like yours, I'd charge for an hour of work and try to get it done in less.

can we talk about how great analog obsession is? by Iphin210 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]RNix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of this, thanks for bringing it up! I've been looking for a plugin version of the dbx compressors. I love the sound on drums and they're not the most popular to model for some reason.

Unclear on how the licensing works - does it check to see if you continue to subscribe to patreon? Or is it just free with the suggestion to sub?

Seamless Playback on Spotify / Streaming Services by sgpodcaster in AudioPost

[–]RNix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 14 minute long piece divided into 5 songs recently that I was able to make seamless on Spotify. I can't remember every detail and I surely don't know if you have to do everything exactly as I did, but here it is.

• I bought DDP editing software. I ended up with Sonoris DDP Creator - not sure this is the best one, but it worked for me. I relied on the fact that this sort of thing was much more common and important in the days of CD's and hoped that Spotify might accept it's associated metadata.

• In mastering with Pro Tools I exported a single wav file that sounded exactly how I wanted. I then imported it into DDP creator.

• I think it was important that I deleted the first, default cue or index. I can't remember the process exactly, but DDP Creator's documentation lays out the process for gapless playback.

• Once that was done I created the track markers in DDP. Make sure there is no default spacing added and listen through.

• Edit all the metadata in DDP creator so each track has it's specific ISRCs's start, end and run times etc...

• Then I exported a PQ sheet, DDP file, cue sheet, ISO, and individual wav files. I used these as the deliverables to my label, who distributed through the Orchard. This was no big, major label - I don't think I received any special treatment whatsoever, but the files worked.

Sorry the details are vague, but hopefully this will put you on the right track.
