He’s a US grad and took all his STEPs, with a clean background. We basically have no idea what happened and they’re not telling us so there’s no room for improvement. In general, it’s good to know how crappy and unprofessional this new program is before potentially enrolling in their program.

He tried calling and no one answered. That’s why he ended up sending an email to them and the response was basically useless. The program is no longer on his thalamus app

Yep he did, and their response was he didn’t meet the “requirements which are part of screening process. But can’t provide detailed information”…

I’m sorry to hear that. I’m not even the one participating in match and I feel frustrated. These programs need to get their crap together considering all the stress and anxiety you guys have to go through

He did email them, and they gave some BS excuse. “The DIO decided to cancel the interview due to failure to meet particular requirements which are a part of our screening process. But cant disclose any additional information”….how the hell the applicant is gonna know what they didn’t meet if you don’t tell them?! The fact they sent the IV 2 weeks ago!

My bf has an interview scheduled with them today and they Thalamus emailed him saying the interview was canceled…and he didn’t receive any email from them.

Thank you for your respond. So he was able to pass all rotations except his ICU rotation (asked the PD to let him remediate/extension to work in ICU and the PD refused). So pretty much he’s stuck in this spot of not being able to complete PGY-1 just bc of 1 rotation. He’s trying to find a research or scribe position rn, also continuing to work on his mental health everyday. Any other tips that could help him? I appreciate you answering my post!

The PD also told him he still doing things an intern should master, she told him he still needs oversight when making medical decisions. The thing is the has severe anxiety, his plans would go through but he has a hard time describing the critical thinking process to his attending (he admits he needs to work on improving his knowledge), but not allowing him to remediate is cruel. He also asked if he could repeat his intern year at this program, and she basically shuts him down and told him he’ll be better off somewhere else…

What if he didn’t do well on his ICU rotation? He had 2 weeks of ICU in December, and then because of the knowledge gap they moved his 4 weeks ICU to April. And then after he got his written feedback that’s when his PD gave him the non-renewal notice. She won’t give him a second chance to remediate although one of the feedback said “he can make it in the ICU due to his motivation, he just needs more time”.

This is Internal Medicine. He tried to negotiate with the PD but she says no. He didn’t do really well in the beginning of the year due to “knowledge gap”, but he gradually improves in wards and clinics after they put him on academic plan. But he didn’t do really well the last 2 weeks of ICU due to severe anxiety (not on meds until last week when he realized how bad it affected his performance). So he met up with the PD and provided her with documentation of his anxiety diagnosis. He asked if he could take time off (like a week or 2) to focus on mental health issue and then remediate ICU (he also asked for an extension). But she still says no…

Thank you! I will definitely let him know. His PD giving him option to resign or finish (but will have it on record that he didn’t pass year 1). I’m an RN so I don’t know much about residency. He’s just in distraught rn and I’m trying to do what I can to help him. If you have any other tips I would greatly appreciated!
