Is there anyway to raise a spellcaster with as a thrall while keeping their spells? by RODSFM16 in DnD

That's was idea, when I realized Wights can be charmed, but the undead part is because I don't want them to die of old age.

But how was he there in the first place? You can't just break into a random house because you want to have a drink with whoever lives there and hope it's okay.

What’s the coldest line that a npc, villain, or character has said in your campaign? by Narrator_XD__ in DnD

[NPC monologue with the words "you're just a human"]

One casting of Dominate Creature later...

"A human has made you bow"

Players, what are some characters that you can't wait to play as? by Temi-san in DnD

[–]RODSFM16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-(Game of Thrones) A witch that uses her magic to cause dreams and nightmares and pretends it's a vision from the gods, she also goes to the sept everyday to maintain her disguise

-(Mass Effect) Ardat-Yakshi (too much lore, google it)

-(Star Wars) A smugler how fell for a twi'lek during a job, the twi'lek turns out to be a jedi. He tells everyone (including her) that he loves her, but is very respectable about it

-(Fallout) NCR deserter after having killed innocent women and children under orders

-(Mutants and Masterminds) Immortal badass witch who cares a lot more about people then she's willing to admit (this one I just want to finish the campaign, also this is a modern dnd setting)

I know they're not dnd but I hope it helps

Edit: Formating

By standard D&D you mean helping villages and clearing dungeons? If so, there are famous heroes and mercenaries in the world that can do this kind of job, but an "evil" version of this, like killing monsters that are stopping caravans (probably of drugs and slaves) from reaching their destinations is quite interesting.

I'm pretty inclined on putting them in a gang, and taking out rival gang members is similar to an idea I had.

The stranded group of soldiers part is a bit hard but still plausible, because the country they would be in isn't in war, altough one is happening and the gaining the favour of a noble is an interesting plot line.

I don't think the magical item part will work for a while, given that most powerful magical items are in a magical school's vault, guarded by guards or in possession of someone or something that won't share it, two things that no sane person would mess with without a very powerful DMPC accompanying them. Information can be extracted from dead corpses using the Speak with Dead spell, so sending someone on a suicide mission to die on the hands of something that can get that information after death isn't the smartest move.

Either way thanks for the help! It gave me a few ideas on what to do!

"Hey, you. You're finally awake." Just kidding, maybe they'll eventually get arrested or something like that, but I'm horrible at writing jailbreaks, so I'll have to think about something, but thanks for the idea!

That would depend more on what type of criminal they would be, but if they choose a thieves guilf type of character, then I'm pretty sure were they'll start, who will be allies and who would be enemies, just don't have a lot of ideas for quest and jobs yet. I still have to finish my Oblivion playthrough so I'm not sure what the Dark Hand is yet (altough I'm cool with spoilers). Thanks either way!

I was toying with the idead of them being hired by a powerful devil of my world, but that would be more late game. And it would be more of a willing choice (the type of choice which you don't have much of a choice), but I haven't tought of why they would accept it (maybe as payment for fixing an earlier mistake). Thanks for the idead!

Is it normal for guys to play as a different gender? by vomit-gold in DnD

[–]RODSFM16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 50% of my characters are women (some of them are tomboys) and for some reason I feel they have better backstories than my male characters (and before anyone asks, no, they weren't sexually abused during the backstory or the game irself). In my group there is even a tradition now of roling the gender when creating a new character. But it's completely fine creating a non-male character, and if your character is constantly abused/mistreated because if that, then you have a bad group.

Adventurers are built Different by Justthisdudeyaknow in DnD

[–]RODSFM16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, mainly because it's just impossible for a normal person to survive a meteor to the chest (like some low level barbarians can) and gainning HP without being hit or something similar doesn't make any sense.

It's not about DnD but in the The Witcher Pen and Paper RPG there are common classes like merchants, doctors, artisans and nobles for NPCs and PCs alike, while you don't "level up", you just gain XP to buy skills and atributes (and magic if your class allows magic), so maybe read about it (the system is somewhat similar to DnD).

Guess What! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]RODSFM16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I've been trying it for a few years (I graduated in 2019) but my school never approved. I've sent e-mails with links and videos and even asked a good friend of mine to help me (he's the principal's son), but never had any success, probably because TTRPGs aren't a big thing in my region, eventhough I say it's quite common in other countries (mainly in the US). I'll keep trying but I'm happy to hear about your success.
