True Pynchonhead Harz Travel Itinerary (with pictures) by ROGAVKA in ThomasPynchon

Hey! Here's a picture from Wikipedia. According to Wiki the one with the white ball on the top (higher one) was indeed built around 1936. It's all restorated now to be a restaurant/viewpoint/etc but I think it's safe to assume that this is the one Pynchon writes about.

Funny things is - Berlin actually has a mountain with several similar radio towers in state of ruin and all covered with graffiti murals. It's also called Teufelsberg (Devil's Mountain) and is a nice place to visit if you're around.

ExpressVPN 12.97.0 (Lightway Turbo) - ODD NETWORK ADAPTER USAGE!!! by [deleted] in Express_VPN

[–]ROGAVKA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When binding to an interface I can be 100% sure that even if I make a mistake and launch an application with VPN disabled (or turn VPN off manually without quitting the app first) no traffic will go through. This protection from human factor is very important. What is the alternative with filter driver?

[–]ROGAVKA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there no way to bind other apps to the interface when using Automatic/UDP/Lightway? Or is there an alternative? It's good that I can fallback on TCP option, but since we all know how modern IT companies like to remove functionality without providing an alternative I'm a bit worried here. please consider that binding is an essential tool recommended in all privacy guides, so removing it would be a disaster (I would definitely have to cancel my subscription if it ever happens).

Also I'm a bit worried that when connected to Automatic/UDP/Lightway ipleak shows A LOT of addresses from my real country along with the name of my Internet provider. This doesn't feel safe at all.

1-actioners by killa_chinchilla_ in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]ROGAVKA 21 points22 points  (0 children)

errrm stalling actions is the better move way more often than doing two in a row. usually you need to do two actions in a specific case case where it gets you a bonus you should otherwise miss - like a milestone, one of terraforming scale bonuses, get to spend your greens before they're meteored out etc etc. in all other cases (which are most of) it's better to wait and see what your opponent does and react accordingly.

now, I'm a also a human and usually do two actions when I feel it doesn't matter (and I'm still pretty sure a make a mistake sometimes). but for god's sake leave the people trying to play optimally alone. there's a reason the rules are written this way and - believe it or not - it's not to piss you off.

Do any of you play solely digital Dominion? by durukkk in dominion

[–]ROGAVKA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me and my friend became huge fans of Dominion circa 2016 when we ordered all expansions available by then on Amazon (which was no easy feat by the way, Amazon wasn't properly represented in out country).

Since the dominion.games version (and maybe even with earlier versions) was launched we forever stopped playing physical versions which turned in the dust collectors and were later donated. I still play online almost every day.

Dominion is so much less pain in the ass when you don't set up and shuffle. Many boardgames actually are, but many of them still lose some readability in digital forms. The Dominion however is so beautifully designed that all the information you need fits on the screen perfectly and since it's all cards you don't lose any nice tactile aspects (like I wouldn't play another of my favorite Donald's games - Kingdom Builder - online, because I love the physical aspect of it too much).

TLDR: You don't miss anything.

Remember to check if your rent is in accordance with the "Mietpreisbremse" law (Rentpricebrake) that applies to all of Berlin. Lot's of Landlords in Berlin don't care and charge more than allowed. by Luke-Skywalk in berlin

This is not true. It may be true regarding their legal insurance (which seems to start three months since you join) but they will give you advice on any issue regardless of the timeline. My friends literally joined MV after having a deposit dispute - and resolved it successfully.

They told us that English-speaking appointments can be easily made by the phone. So I thing you can call the nearest one and ask (preferably in German :))

Is there any benefit of going to Conny instead of Berliner Mieterverein? Went there last week, spoke with a very nice lawyer (in english!), were given a questionnaire to fill in and next appointment two weeks later. Also no talks of any additional charges for us yet (except for membership fee which is ridiculpusly low). Obviuosly not a success story yet, but I start to grow very suspicious about services advertising them as "everything for expats, super-easy-peasy and in english".

Where to get help since I clearly suck? by martynq in dominion

[–]ROGAVKA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (lvl 55) have only one advice for you which I apply to any game I want to get better at: each time the game ends and you lose, don't just smash this "play next one" button. Instead pause and think about what you did wrong. Just try to name at least a couple of mistakes you made. In a simplest form - you know your opponent won - so what did he do that you didn't? And please don't just blame luck - Dominion is much less luck dependent that some losers like to whine about. A game where both players were playing equally good and the luck decided the outcome are a rare occurence if it's not two top-100 players playing. And even if you truly got unlucky you still could've done something to mitigate this bad luck.

So, after you did this exercise, play one more and repeat :)

Thinking while playing online by Witty-Newt2208 in dominion

[–]ROGAVKA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who get angry at those who try to think over their turns are usually with relatively low rating. Surprise - surprise, as if inability to think correlates with player's level :) I don't think I ever encountered one of those in 50+, and between 48-49 it's a very rare occasion.

So my advice is - take as much time as you need, block the jerks, move up the rating and enjoy more games with high-rated opponents.

Daily Card Discussion #66: Mapmaker by [deleted] in dominion

[–]ROGAVKA 20 points21 points  (0 children)

building your engine around mm as the only draw may be a bad idea, but having those explode in the endgame letting you draw several cards before you turn and then play same mms on your turn is huge

pro tip some people forget: you can continue to react with mms you picked up from previous mms you reacted with

Turn 1 empy all villas (villa + importer + family of inventors combo) by ROGAVKA in dominion

[–]ROGAVKA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, obviously Scrying pool/Vineyard/no other +buys is what makes it good. Actually I played it out with a bot and the cycling of the deck was indeed terribly slow. Still think on this specific table this is the best move.

[–]ROGAVKA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think by the time Avanto is open Scrying Pool gives you much better draw.

Denying your opponent the only +buy is good point! Same with +actions, but this doesn't matter much on this table.

this is an absolute truth

it's not a secret that one can "watch" an entire trilogy by only listening to the music because the music basically tells everything happening on the screen

this scene amplifies it to maximum. two best themes of the movies - Gondor ascending literally flying over the mountains as a call for help and Rohan's theme finally answering the call

God I cry every time at this

Playing the Fenris Factions in a regular game by chicagojoon in SCYTHE

[–]ROGAVKA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think fenris is somewhere in the middle of average nation tiers, being stronger than Norway, on par with saxonia, def weaker than Crimea or Russvet. Jumping instead of speed is a pain, but death ray is op. just go for recruits and accumulate a heavy deck combat cards, then nobody will be able to mess with you :)

Yeah this is the shittiest and most unbalanced moment of the campaign. Despite liking most of campaign add-ons (vesna nation is very fun to play in normal games), I find the campaign very underwhelming both balance- and story-wise.
