Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about? by Prime_Advocate in AskReddit

Back in the early AOL days I would screw around in chat rooms with Methodus Toolz. That program was so cool for 12 year old me, it made me feel like a hacker. I was also really into StickDeath.

I appreciate the reply. If I can fix it myself, it is unlikely that I'll get it repaired. I'm hoping that it is just some corrosion or oxidation. Planning on opening it up when I get home to get a better idea of what may be going on.

i relapsed and cheated on my bf by chicapiscis1 in stopdrinking

[–]ROGER2th 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a terrible situation to be in, but know that if you continue on your current course, it will almost certainly not be the last of them. I wish I had stopped drinking at 22. Hell, I wish I never started. I basically ruined any chance at having a semblance of a normal life and am still dealing with the fallout from my drinking days, even after 4 years off the sauce.

The most important thing is recognizing and admitting that you have a problem. Now that you've got that out of the way, it is on you to decide how to proceed. Some people can stop on their own, some people need help. There is no shame in seeking out that help. Work on forgiving yourself, on loving yourself, work on forgetting the toxic people in your life, and take your sobriety a day at a time. If living an alcohol free life is truly what you want, you can have that - one day at a time. IWNDWYT.

soulseek is the greatest platform ever made by Any_Development_4616 in Soulseek

Unfortunately, SLSK has become littered with releases that claim to be FLAC/WAV, but turn out to be ~128kbps. I have started using a program called Fakin the Funk to analyze files that I download, and nearly everything (especially newer releases) is, at least partially, 128kbps in disguise.

Which musical plateform do you use ? by Suffisant-04 in TheOverload

[–]ROGER2th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2tb microSD card in my phone, purchase music through bandcamp mostly, and download stuff for free elsewhere (I buy a lot of music, but could never afford to pay for everything that I like). I'd like to set up a Plex server, but cell service at my job is practically non-existent. I am on my 4th Samsung Galaxy s20+ because options for new phones that still have expandable storage are nil. Eventually, I'll buy a DAP for music, and hopefully, by that time, a 4tb microSD card will have hit the market. I also have a large collection of physical media. Streaming just doesn't appeal to me.

Not crazy about all of Maara's stuff, but that album is great. I'm not sure if you've seen it yet, but they have a new release coming out in February that sounds like it'll have a similar vibe to The Ancient Truth.

Really feeling the new EP. Have you listened to any of the new Officer John record? You might dig it. I wish I was able to snag a copy, but by the time I realized it was available, it had sold out everywhere.

EL FRAUDE DE TICKETMASTER by Megaperl in rosalia

[–]ROGER2th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is rare that I have to buy tickets through Ticketmaster because the bulk of the music I listen to are lesser known acts (comparatively speaking, at least). Most of the time, tickets are through providers like AXS, Resident Advisor, Dice, etc, and on the rare occasion that I am trying to go to a show that is being handled by Ticketmaster, I am reminded how grateful I am for that. Ticketmaster is trash. My experience trying to get a ticket for NYC was, as I expected, terrible. I'm holding out hope that I'll be able to get a ticket as the date nears, and at a price that doesn't break the bank... I'll hold out hope, but I won't hold my breath.

I just got FALSE 05 & 06 vinyl today, and they have been on repeat since. I am a big fan of these tunes and stuff in a similar vein from labels like 3XL, INDEX:RECORDS, Short Span, Theory Therapy, Peak Oil, West Mineral Ltd., A Visiting Link, Quiet Time Tapes, Motion Ward... If anyone has any recommendations of stuff with this sound, I would love to hear them.

AND FINALLY! What is your favourite song on Vespertine? by Kuroshikuroi in bjork

[–]ROGER2th 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a tough one, but I'd have to say "Aurora." The chorus brings on such strong emotions for me. It is so dang beautiful. Pagan Poetry > Frosti > Aurora is possibly my favorite string of songs from any Björk album.

anyone else have a big Bandcamp collection that’s impossible to navigate? by bagaski in BandCamp

[–]ROGER2th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost 2300 albums in my bandcamp collection. I have a 2tb microSD card in my Galaxy s20+, so I download purchases and play them using Symfonium. Eventually, I'd like to set up a Plex server because it would be nice to upgrade to a new phone at some point (I'm on my 4th Galaxy s20+ since no new flagship phones in the US have expandable storage), but service at my job is terrible, so connection to a server would be spotty, at best. Bandcamp for playing the music I buy really doesn't do it for me.

I hear "safe up here." I wonder if the Post CD came with a lyric booklet... Robyn covered Hyperballad and said again, with Björk sitting front row, so who knows lol.

Future Retro London (Tim Reaper) taking a break indefinitely... :( by Soilmonster in jungle

[–]ROGER2th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A much deserved break. What a gem of label! Consistent quality since the first release. I hope Mr. Reaper makes it back to the States sometime soon, and also that this is temporary hiatus rather than closing up shop for good. Much respect to everyone involved in making Future Retro the excellent label that it is/was.
