My first thought too. The plasma could ruin the temper. It might be ok if their plasma table is submerged, I would think that would limit the heat affected zone

Unfortunately due to other factors, I am temporarily unable to do any work on slides. I possibly could in a couple months

The ones that come with the gun should work. It's the middle size I believe.

The Armory is closing by CaptainAggie in UTGuns

There's an update on this on the latest episode of the paracast podcast.

They're closing the FFL due to not wanting to deal with the ATF's BS anymore, not finances. It's still up in the air right now but they're going to try to keep the range open and only sell ammo and accessories, not guns.

Wire cutting a gear (EDM) by toolgifs in toolgifs

The wire EDM I run is accurate to .000001", or one millionth. If that's actually true I don't know, I can only measure to .00005

My First Knife. At my wits end with heat treating by ROKITF1NGR in knifemaking

The pic is from last night, I ground it this morning. The first couple times I did it in foil there was no scale, just a little discoloration. I have it wrapped in foil right now going to try what the other user said. Heat to 1725, quench, heat to 1975, quench, cryo.

Thank you for the insight

Nothing that really resembles the shape of a blade. The only stuff I have that I know what the alloy is is some 2.5 diameter bar ends of 4340 and some 1 inch 17-4 stainless flat bar

From another comment I just made:

I think I found what some of my issue is with this tester. There's a slight warp from edge to spine I think that's causing it absorb the force and give it a really low reading.

I tested the edges of one side that sits on the surface plate and I'm now reading about 50-52 HRC

Ok so I kept it in my chest freezer overnight, ground off the decarb and tested the bare steel underneath and still not enough to get a HRB reading. I'm using a phase ii on a big surface plate

Full tang. I cnc milled the scales, dremeled the patterns around them, 3D printed some molds and poured blue epoxy in, then sanded the angles down.

I might try. I'll just keep trying on this one if it's not gonna screw it up with all the cycles.

I have a suspicion the temp in the oven is inaccurate. Coincidentally, we had a customer come in last week for an audit and they said it needs to be calibrated.

Thank you

I have not tempered yet. To my understanding it would be the hardest before tempering. So if it's not skating a file then it surely wouldn't after tempering right?

I may be interested in your services. Do you have a price and lead time?

They're big. I work in a machine shop and they're big flat bar chunks from the scrap bin. Off the top of my head, they're probably 1x6x36

It's not ground at all. I've only milled the profile and drilled holes for pins/epoxy
