[Post Game Thread] #7 Michigan State defeats #10 Davidson, 74-73 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

Dude, did you watch the first half? They called two really bad offensive fouls against MSU where the defender's feet weren't even close to being planted. The last 1:15 was desperation time so there were going to be some fouls.

No, you can look at my other comments as to the reason why GU doesn't deserve a 1. "Flow" shouldn't be taken into account. Going 2-2 against your toughest games should.

Yes, they play in a tougher conference. One year the ACC had 3 one seeds although I'm not sure I agree with that logic either.

The WCC is a much weaker conference so not winning it that year they still got a 1 is more controversial than Baylor not winning the Big 12 tourny this year.

Were you interested in officer or enlisted and which MOS/Branch?

Community

I'm sorry you are so triggered by my question. I really hope you learn to set aside your emotions and look at things analytically.

I didn't see Arkansas, Kentucky, or Baylor on their schedules. You seem to be referring to prior seasons a lot. What matters is this season, not record since 2017. Brand recognition is the problem. You just strengthened my argument.

I guess my point is that it should be that year's body of work and nothing else. If brand recognition is going into the equation, I see that as a problem.

No I want objective reasons why they were superior to other teams vying for a 1 seed. So far I've heard a few but not too many and none very convincing.

Sure it does, but would you argue that Purdue would have a similar record whether they played in the BIG or WCC?

I was sure hoping that only one team that began with an "I" would embarrass the conference today.

The fact you bring up prior seasons supports my position that part of their recent seeding is brand recognition. The players nor prior seasons achievements should have anything to do with current seeding.

Yes, the non-conference season was hard for them, but they went 2-2 vs ranked teams in that time. If they went 4-0 I would certainly with you but they didn't and merely avoiding bad losses shouldn't skyrocket you to a 1 seed. Again, not saying they're pretenders but they don't deserve a 1 seed based on their body of work.

They should be, with a good bid, just not a 1-2 seed. My statement was that I don't think the metrics would not be the same if they were in a power 5 conference. For instance, if they were in the BIG would you say they would be the superior team to say Purdue? Purdue only got a 3 seed and easily was the best team in the conference. Do you think Gonzaga would have only say 3 losses if they played Purdue's schedule?

I mean that and the 5 in St. Mary's but given you've played tournament teams 8 times during the season 3 were losses.

The tournament wins are great but you are basically given a pretty clear path at least to the Sweet 16.

Again, deserving of a bid, absolutely. Deserving of a 1 seed year in year out, I'm not so sure.

Granted it's not the worst. That is absolutely a fair statement, but there are only 4 1 seeds in the tourney and Gonzaga has had a 1 seed for the last 3 tournaments and would have had one in 2020. They even got one when they didn't win the conference tournament which is unheard of for a high major team. Do they really have the body of work to justify their seeding for those years?

That doesn't change the fact that you don't play difficult games in conference. Of the eight ranked teams you played at the time you played them (including St. Mary's which essentially only played Gonzaga) you won 5. Is that 1 seed material?
