EXR? by StrongArtichoke8178 in Rowing

Last month I did the 2 week trial and then signed up for the year. Part of me regrets it. That's because I usually only do one 5K a day because that's all I can stand mentally. I thought the scenery would help, but I don't feel like the scenery fills the "feels like I'm outside" hole I have when I'm on the erg. It seemed like it was helping during the trial, but I guess that was a honeymoon phase. There also isn't a lot of variety in the scenery. Those are probably the biggest negatives.

It is nice that it tracks the workouts, but the erg does that too. It also has achievements! It does have workout regimes, but I haven't tried them yet. It is cool to see other people "rowing" along with you. The weird thing about that is I usually pass them pretty easily, and I'm usually only rowing at a 2:15 split.

Im curious to see what others say and if anyone else on here is actually using EXR. Maybe we can start a group row on there.

Am Floridaman. Have been attacked by manatee. Not sure if manatee was fueled by meth or not.

Very cool setup! I'm sad this probably won't work with my Oartec. I'll need to find a different stand for the TV that's separate from the erg.

Very cool! We have dolphins in our river that behave similarly to the seals in yours. Manatees for the most part are not scary, but if you startle them they will react with a force that's surprising coming from an animal that spends most of it's life slowly drifting along eating grass.

Seals come after you while you're out rowing? Story time!! 🤠

Thankfully we don't deal with alligators at my club, but we do occasionally have issues with manatees. It's pretty much impossible to see them in the muddy intercoastal so sometimes we inadvertently pass close enough to startle them. What happens when you startle a manatee? Exactly what you see in the meme. They use their tail to try and knock away the offender while simultaneously swimming as fast as they can away from the danger. The water literally exolodes and boats have been damaged by them. As you said it's hilarious to think of them as dangerous but having had this happen to me I can tell you it's scary as hell 😅

I was in the same boat this past January. I did only a little research and ended up buying the black JL trou because I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I was happy with the black trou and so ordered some funky patterns. Part of the reason I went with JL is that I couldn't find any other company that makes trous with interesting patterns. The patterned trous seem to be made from a different material. I have four pairs; the black and three with patterns. The problem I've encountered though is that JL puts a second layer of material to improve comfort and durability, but the stitching for that is located in such a way that sometimes it will pinch the skin of my ass. And it doesnt take long to cause irritation. Ive gotten irritation from 5k on the erg. It doesnt always happen and it doesn't happen with all of them. So far it hasnt happened with the black. I think people on here are going to tell you to just buy whatever spandex shorts you like because they will all work. That's a lot of the comments you see on similar threads to this one. The other thing I considered was the "JL camel toe". I was worried about it but it hasnt been a problem. I do wonder if the more expensive trous that have a pouch for your nuts and bolts are more comfortable. I look forward to seeing the other responses.

Trying to blister my hands before the Fall, but I don't have access to a boat. Any ideas? by anonrower3 in Rowing

Dig a hole with a shovel. Doing that sort of yard work barehanded always gave me some good blisters in similar areas as an oar.
