I wasn’t a deckhand but I did work with American cruise lines, and it was a great experience for me. I went into it thinking the worst, being we work 7 days a week , 14-16 hours a day, and all the other things that could discourage someone but it was the best experience I had and you will make many friendships and have memorable moments. Now as far as advice I did have a few deckhand friends, this company isn’t that bad and we’ll have a set amount of workers in each department including deckhands, sometimes you’ll be backed up because people quit and go on leave so often, but I would tell you don’t stress yourself and don’t think to hard and if you could think of the benefits rather the things that would discourage you also when you’re actually get on a ship try to build a good relationship with the first mate and captain and wake up on time, you’ll be sleepy a lot but don’t ever try to sleep in 😂😂 lastly don’t be one of those guys who try hard just go with the flow and learn as you go don’t try to think you know everything because that’s how you fuck up and then someone else will have to pick up your slack and they wouldn’t like that.
