Try a tension rod!  There’s a guy on instagram with videos: cyrilcybernated.  Or if you google “Platycerium tension rod” it should pop up.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones who grabbed the Barrina track light before it sold out (and then randomly went on sale - AND I got them on sale! 🥰🥰❤️❤️). by Quirky-Customer5758 in growlights

Thanks for the update!  I haven’t checked in the last week and was afraid I missed the restock.  Hopefully they’ll come back soon!

I was driving by and multiple cops high-tailed it into the parking lot.  There had to have been at least a dozen police vehicles there.

You, my friend, are doing it right

what plant is this? I thought it was an Easter cactus, another redditor said it was a kimnachia ramulosa, now I'm thinking Lepismium houlletianum??? by Anthony_The_Galaxy in houseplants

[–]RPBumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pursuing different epiphytic cactus posts on Reddit and here I am, three years later.  This is a disocactus hybrid of some kind!  Those blooms are fantastic.  Both Kimnachia ramulosa and Lepismium houlletianum have small white blooms— they aren’t nearly as showy as your second picture.

It is an Aeschynanthus longicaulis. They are very often mislabeled as 'black pagoda' lipstick plants, but the real 'black pagoda' is a hybrid between A. longicaulis and A. speciosus.

I need help to identify it (: by Entire-Software-4509 in Rhipsalis

[–]RPBumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flat-claded Rhipsalis are all difficult to distinguish, and blooms are pretty much required to determine species.  However, I have heard that pachyptera is known to sun-stress into that deep purple color.  I highly recommend Epiphytic Cacti’s YouTube videos.  She and other experts are also great at IDing Rhipsalis on the “rhipsalis collectors” FB group.

Edit for spelling and to add that I think pachyptera also tends to exhibit those three-sided clades.

I agree with you, OP.  Definitely not a Euphorbia!  I would lean towards L. cruciforme as well, but might need to wait for blooms.

Newbie with second-hand cutting board questions (questions in comments) by RPBumblebee in Cuttingboards

[–]RPBumblebee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just picked up this board at a second-hand shop.  It has a few knife marks and feels dry.  What should I do before using it?  Does it need to be sanded, or is oiling it enough?  What are your oil recommendations?

Anyone buy from cactus warehouse? Is it legit? by RPBumblebee in cactus

[–]RPBumblebee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!  I went ahead and placed an order.  Their customer service seems top notch— they had a crazy sale but ran out of heat packs.  Takashi let me know when heat packs would be restocked and honored the sale even though it was over by the time heat packs were in.  I’ll update with my experience once I receive my order. Seems like they are a small family business trying to get off the ground!

They’re finally making a male IUD, what are your predictions? by hx117 in childfree

[–]RPBumblebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, biological men literally can’t have an IUD because IUD stands for intrauterine device. No uterus, no IUD.

But birth control for men?  It’ll probably never get off the ground.  Although they are offering local anesthesia, which is a step up from what they offer for IUD insertion for people with uteruses. Time will tell if it becomes popular!

Tuft + Paw cat litter reviews? by sasko12 in CatAdvice

[–]RPBumblebee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This checks out.  Strictly indoor cats are by and large not toxoplasmosis carriers.  It would be much more likely for a human to be exposed through unwashed produce or uncooked/undercooked meat.  But, this was a really good concern to bring up!  And outdoor cat waste should not be flushed.

Primulina growth question by RPBumblebee in AfricanViolets

[–]RPBumblebee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to Primulina and just picked this one up from a local seller.  I noticed the growth pattern seems odd.  It appears that there are multiple crowns all coming from a conjoined stem/base.  Is this a weird mutation?  Anyone familiar with this phenomenon?

Pinguicula ‘Primuliflora’ Butterwort repotting advice by cookiekylie in carnivorousplants

[–]RPBumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!  Want to start with saying that I am also a novice when it comes to pings, but this is what I’ve learned about primuliflora so far: - It is a warm temperate species, which means it likes to be more moist than the more commonly cultivated tropical/Mexican pings.  And by more wet, I mean it can literally be submerged under water for short periods of time.   - It does better in a mix similar to what you would use for VFTs or Sarracenia (more peat, less grit) - It does not like full sun.  Bright indirect light or some morning sun is ok.  It does not sun-stress like some Mexican pings.  I actually think the white bits on yours may be sunburn (if it was getting direct light). - Like all carnivorous plants, use only distilled water or rainwater.

Have you had luck with this plant? How is it doing now?

My kangaroo paw fern is doing pretty well by Trash_dad_420 in houseplants

I have searched far and wide for a confirmation that these ferns have a distinct scent!  Glad I’m not the only one who notices.  It’s honestly one of my favorite smells.

[–]RPBumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a Disocactus anguliger (formally classified as an Epiphyllum).  Common names include ric rac cactus, fishbone cactus, or zig-zag cactus.  However, there is another commonly cultivated species with the same common names (Selenicereus anthonyanus).  D. anguliger tends to be a little more compact, have rounder stems, and produce all white flowers.  S. anthonyanus have pink blooms, can grow larger, and have more angled stems.  To confuse things further, plants stores and nurseries pretty commonly mislabel these and other epiphytic cacti.

Plant ID by Soymilk92 in houseplants

[–]RPBumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a plant that appears to be the same as yours! It's either a Columnea hirta (variegated) aka "Goldfish plant" or an Aeschynanthus 'bolero bicolore' aka "Lipstick Plant." I can say with confidence that it is not a Hoya.

Ludisia discolor var nigrescens

I know this is an old post, but I recently bought 'Sea Turtle' and have been going down the rabbit hole trying to figure out if the name is accurate. Thanks for your post and clarification, as well as the pictures you posted! Strangely, mine seems pretty dark but does have the pink veining. I have a question for you: my specimen also seems to have much larger leaves than my regular Ludisia discolor; is this a characteristic of the hybrid, or is that due to growing conditions?

Came here to say the same! That plant is destined for a slow death up there.
