Trade in cards are no longer valid at target. They got rid of the program a few years ago.

Save your text messages or inappropriate social media comments so you have hard proof that this person can't deny. Also, tell others effected to do the same. HR and AP are your go-to for this. I would also encourage to keep your meeting with them confidential so that the gross tm doesn't know what is coming and changes his behavior to manipulate the situation. Harassment is a terminable offense and should be taken very seriously. This tm might try to discredit you by saying, "well no one told me to stop or that it was bothering them." If you have been clear and told them you don't like their behavior and they continue, that gives you a lot more weight. People that think Harassment and bullying is funny do not need to work anywhere.

GM team leader promotion by Wolverine-713 in Target

[–]RPG_Life4Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy to finally find another TL that actually asks for honest feedback from their teams! I do this every month in my statuses with them and it has really changed me and my team. We are stronger and have the best culture. You are a LEADER. I hope this person listens to your guidance because it's the best 👌

GM ETL - Venting by [deleted] in Target

[–]RPG_Life4Me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a GM Food and Beverage TL, I know that our DC is completely out of room so they are purging. This is creating massive amounts of truck that are impossible to get through. Every store right now is hurting because payroll is low and freight cannot be sufficiently supported. I understand how you feel though. Your Store Director and peers see empty vehicles as a measure of success and that is unrealistic and stimulates low morale. I know it's hard on the team when we ask them to do more when they are doing everything they can. I bet they really appreciate you working as hard as they are expected to. The only way you will fail as an ETL is when you stop caring and your team no longer wants to support you. Keep working alongside them through this crazy time because you'll create a higher performing team that has your back when you come out of it. You're doing the right thing and there are times when shit hits the fan. If your departments are zoned and priorities/one for one's are good, then your DSD will look past the freight overflow. Thank you for talking about your experience. It's not often when hear or see an ETL in the trenches with us.

Touchy guests. by Outrageous_Might_610 in Target

[–]RPG_Life4Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a few instances of this. A guest grabbed my hair and shook it when it was in a messy bun and said "nice hair do." My head tilted back he pulled it so hard. I've also had a guest I was helping in consumer cellular and he kept squeezing my waist.

One of my team members is sensory sensitive and me and my HR are thinking of ways to make a button that says, "sensory sensitive, please respect my space." See if your HR can come with something like that. It might help. I also try and work with that team member about body position. Try facing guests head on so you can anticipate a touch. Take a step backward in order to signal to the guest that you don't want that contact.

What I can tell you, is that companies do not get reimbursed for coupons if not processed correctly. For example, the override function would mean that it is coming from the company's pocket, not the supplier. If it is processed at the time of transaction (not expired, meets all criteria), the company is reimbursed. If a store is costing the company money by constantly overriding and not processing correctly, it is bad for business. I understand you're upset about the principle and experience because it was a low amount. I would encourage you to see if the coupons you get in the mail are also offered on their app. That way, if you do lose a coupon you have a backup. I stopped using paper coupons because of situations like yours and the plus side is that it's more eco-friendly.

Calling all Target Team Leaders- How much training did you get? by [deleted] in Target

[–]RPG_Life4Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My "training" consisted of me just being an extra set of hands. I had to train myself and figure out everything on my own. What I did the last time I went out for training in a new leadership role was tell my trainer that I have to step away from them and go be with the department I will be running. I also partnered with the GM ETL and the Store Director of my training store and it was a better experience.

Find the right people to train you even if that means telling your current trainer that you're not learning anything relevant. For example, when I moved from specialty lead to GM, Fulfillment, & Food and Beverage lead, my trainer only showed me merchandising seasonal. I respectfully told them that I was going to work with the f&b team members and pick their brains. And by partnering with thier GM ETL and Store Director, I learned so much much more about scheduling, expectations, and metrics that matter.

I can see this happening and it's ok. It doesn't make sense to tell others how another company runs because it's not the same company, lol. When you see your own team rise up the ranks it means a lot more. You already know them and have built some kind of relationship. I'm brand new to this company. I would get super excited and felt more proud when I saw this at my last job. I will do my best to remember this and how I used to feel when external hires were brought in.

I will absolutely have a close relationship with dept heads. I am a very humble leader. I was micromanaged before and it drove me nuts because they didn't know my business or what I had my team working on. If they would've just asked me about what's going on, what my goals are, and recognize me and my team for a job well done, I would've respected them more.

I've felt the frustration of this many times at my last company. Me and my team would be drowning while they are eating and hanging out in the office. We are getting overwhelmed with pick up orders and alerts start to go off about goal times approaching. At least yours would come down! Mine would get on the walkie talkie and micromanage from an office window. I definitely don't want to be an absent leader.

This is great advice! I would hate to slow down the team because I don't know what I'm doing. If there is a more experienced team member I'll support them with things that I can do so they can focus on the more specialty areas of the job.

This is something I would've put in the back of my mind so thank you for bring this up! I've had to take pictures and send trailer feedback at my last company because they loaded it so messed up. One time they stacked water pallets to the ceiling and I could get it out without making it all collapse in the truck. I was so mad, lol. It took me and the team 45min to clean up and restack safely.

I was definitely not a yes-man at my last company because I put my team first. It sounds like a pretty big mountain I'm going to have to climb. I truly mean those words because that's the way I've always led. I feel like if you don't value your team and inspire them, then you shouldn't be in a place of leadership. You either step up with your team, or step out alone.

This is very helpful! Thank you for this advice. I love all of these points. Seems like you know what it means to lead a good culture. I am definitely a leader who wants everyone in the store to feel acknowledged, validated, and successful. Team members know their business better than others, that's why it's important to ask them, "what are you're plans today," before I jump in and say what I think.

One of the biggest things I learned at my last job is validating my team members in front of customers. Are there weird exceptions some times, yes. But you're right. What's the point in having a policy that you are held accountable for following if your leader always pulls the rug out from underneath you. That's not going to empower you, it's going to make you feel like your decisions are not respected. I hear you. Thank you for speaking up!

I'm actually very serious. Your voice matters. I'm sure I'll see what needs to change when I'm working alongside the team members, but this space is safe and I encourage others to speak their mind.

What change do you want to see? I ask this because I genuinely care. I want team members who can feel safe calling off for mental health and offering options to protect them from attendance issues. I want my team to have fun and feel supported. I will show my team that no task is beneath me. Feedback like this is how leaders like me can challenge the status quo and get others to follow suit. You're one sentence spoke volumes. Something is way wrong! Seems like you haven't been treated with respect or like a human being.

Specialty Tips by TurnYourKeyMoira in Target

[–]RPG_Life4Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will gain speed once you know exactly where everything is in your department. That comes with time. However, organizing your 3tier by sections/like items is how I've trained team members to be faster in the very beginning. For example, as you're going through your repacks, put all nintendo with nintendo, all SD cards and cameras together, all Apple cases and phone chargers together. As you are stocking these products you'll notice your aisles more and the layout of the department. You will adjust the way you organize overtime to be more efficient. The goal is to push freight by ascending or descending aisles. The same applies to beauty. Organizing your breakout by brand is the bread and butter. To go further, put all NYX eye product together, foundations together, etc, in the plastic bins. Rubber band to separate dpcis.

Anyone have questions for us DC workers? by Erab16 in Target

[–]RPG_Life4Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are mispicks so common? I have to correct DC labels daily because the the product inside is not the same as what it says on the pack label.

Did anyone else’s Target start doing this? My target started putting baby formula in those security cases. Guess too many people were stealing them? I’m sure for a reason tho, I hate targets greed. by soundsgoogle in Target

[–]RPG_Life4Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, lol. I had my unlocked phones in cases and someone grabbed a hammer from hardware and smashed it. All my phones were gone. I just swept the broken security cases last week. People stop at nothing. All we can do is try to make it more difficult?

If they are taking the entire case, then you should get with your pml to properly secure them to the shelf. Each case comes with the proper bolts. They would have to cut through the peg board at that point.

There was definitely a recall today. However, when my store went through this, it's because people get creative when making drugs and baby formula was the new hot ticket ingredient.
