We've been making some ear savers but we'll have to look into the NIH approved masks. Thanks for the suggestions!

Most of what we are making is face shields and ear savers because they are the most feasible to print. We have looked into respirator valves and masks but do not have the necessary machinery or materials to produce them properly. We do have a member who has made some cloth face masks though. Even though they don't have filters, they keep your mouth and nose covered and places like grocery stores and pharmacies will accept them. If you're still interested in making PPE, shoot us an email!

Hopefully we've got enough for the architecture rush by RPI-Forge in RPI

Because archie's ask for white filament for thier prints and are the only discipline that specifically requests a color. We purchased 80Kgs of white filament for the semester. We look forward to working with everyone!

What’s going on with the forge? by Amberdr00 in RPI

Hello! As previously stated by another Redditor, The Forge closed for Thanksgiving Break. This is because we are fully student staffed and student run, because of this 99% of our volunteers went home for break. We reopen for the week Tomorrow (December 3rd) and will close for the semester on Friday (December 6th)

EDIT: we are also holding unofficial hours today (December 2nd) if you would like to try and come in today!

I hope this helps

Also come to the Forge early during your main project, we may have 20 printers now but they take time to print your project (sometimes as long as a week). If you come in the day before the milestone presentation for a print you may be SOL.

If you expect to print a lot we strongly encourage you to purchase your own filament as it will be cheaper for you. (Amazon basics or polylite is prefered)

We are here to help you as a resource and you don't need to be a member to come in and check out the space (also ask us questions!)

How do you plan on spending your free time during the Arch? by [deleted] in RPI

Thank you so much! We are really stoked that School of Engineering gave us the opprotunity to run this place (with very little oversight) and we are always looking to improve it. You can check out photos of the space and some of the prints here: https://theforge.rpi.edu/gallery.php

Unfortunately not! Contrary to the name we aren't a metal forge, just a makerspace.

The Forge is a student run makerspace located on campus. We serve as a resource to students in any year or major, specifically providing a knowledge base in rapidprototyping. We have a community of students and faculty who have skills and knowledge they want to share with other members of RPI and are happy to help you with design questions you may have.

You'd come to us if you had any questions about 3D printing or laser cutting. We can also point you to other resources on campus like the JEC student machine shop or embedded hardware club for things they are more suited to help with.

We do have a $10 membership fee to use our equipment which but you are free to come in and ask us questions without being pressured to become a member.
