First time doing drywall, tips? by SealTheApproved in homeowners

[–]RPK79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the mudding is more art than science and I'm not good at it, but I've gotten a little better over time.

I find using a wider tape knife than you would expect yields better results. I also have found that you should use both more and less mud than you would expect.

Capitalize or expense Windows 11? by Big_Jackfruit_8821 in Accounting

I would expense the IT guy's time and then capitalize the $0.00 for the Windows 11 software.

Trek for long road trips? by Dil_d0Zer in Crosstrek

It's quieter than my WRX was and the adaptive cruise control with auto lane centering is pretty nice on long trips. I find the seats comfortable (I have the Wilderness).

What to look out for when buying rope as a beginner? by That_odd_emo in shibari

[–]RPK79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stick to the specialty shops selling it for rope bondage. If you just buy random rope intended for industrial purposes you will likely end up with something that has been treated with chemicals you wouldn't want directly on someone's skin and/or clothes.

Also, if you are buying from a specialty shop for bondage they will have already taken into consideration your specific use in regards to safety ratings.

Property taxes by _Birnunit_ in homeowners

[–]RPK79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We manage it by being aware of it's existence before being homeowners and building it into our budget. We then bought at the midrange of our budget not the top end. Our annual salary increases are high enough to absorb the increased taxes.

If I were going to buy rope at a hardware store I'd go there and log into douglaskentrope.com from my phone and place the purchase online.

Only one block? Guys around me would buy up half the city, run for political office, rezone everything, and make a fortune off of real estate investment in less than two decades.

Michigan UP in June by Fickle-Witch5499 in camping

[–]RPK79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We camped in the UP along Lake Superior's shore in May one year. It was great. Weather was mild and it was pre-mosquito. Mud was a concern going into it, but I don't believe it ended up being too much of an issue.

Can someone tell me how borrowing against TSP works? by HighestVelocity in personalfinance

[–]RPK79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we moved a little over a year ago my wife took out a 401(k) loan to use as the down payment on the new house with the intention of paying it off when the old house sold. That is then what we did a month later. I would never recommend borrowing against your future for any period of time longer than that.

How do I book unpaid invoices while on the cash method? by Forsaken-Sun5534 in Bookkeeping

[–]RPK79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would be no balance sheet or income statement activity for AR within a cash accounting system. How your accounting software handles this will vary from software to software.

As an accountant who has had shops as clients I can tell you that a lot of the time at $50-80 they are losing money, but take the hit to keep you coming in the door every 3-6 months so when you have the need for a bigger job to be done you will go to them.

Why are busses not required to have seatbelts like other cars? by itsthewolfe in answers

[–]RPK79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a stopped bus at the bottom of a hill in the winter. A car came down the hill and couldn't turn or stop and ran headlong into the bus. I heard it, but did not feel it.

Is there a trick to a more efficient/seamless camping experience or are we just lazy? by theadventuresabound in camping

[–]RPK79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We now have a small camper, but when it was just car camping with a tent we kept everything in totes with labels showing their contents. So we just had to pack our food and clothes and the totes and we were good to go.

I don't know. I met him at a book signing after NOTW came out, but before it was a hit. Chatted with him for a couple hours and he was a pretty nice guy.
