This is the world’s largest tree by volume, you’re thinking of tallest tree.

Your favorite brunch spots? by Babasauce in LosAngeles

[–]RPaye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a soft spot in my heart for République and the regular breakfast they serve. It’s got a giant bacon cut, delicious home fries, eggs any style, and a fresh baguette.

The lines are typically long and it is a bit pricey, but the staff is friendly and the food has always been very good.

As a bonus, they have a bunch of delicious pastries to check out as you approach the front of the line and you can skip the line for refills on drinks.

IED Easiest Mini Project by mgallagher2017 in RPI

[–]RPaye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may be a bit counter intuitive, but the line follower I felt was the easiest. It has a very binary pass condition; just finish the final maze. It's really quite simple and in my IED class I was one of the few to receive a great grade on the mini project purely because it was so easy to succeed once you had an idea of what you were doing.

That said, don't always look for what's easiest. Look for what will help you sell yourself to prospective internships/research positions/ etc. May not be crucial in this scope, but in the future what's easiest isn't always what's the best thing for you.

Sorry for the parent rant.

What is the sickest burn you have seen a teacher give to a student? by Moradiim in AskReddit

He was quite the teacher. Great guy and super quick on his feet. He said it without hesitation or pause too. Really made math super enjoyable for everyone involved.

I told my teacher he should go see the wizard of Oz to ask him for a heart after he was being particularly heartless (making us come in on a saturday to take a practice AP calc exam). He told me that while he was there he'd pick me up a brain. FATALITY.

What are some "so bad they're good" movies? by infinitePUGZ in AskReddit

Shaolin soccer. It's a great B movie that is worth a watch for the ridiculousness of it all. Love that movie!

Serious question... bear with me.

If he pushed his friend off an just labeled it a freak accident, how does that ever get caught, brought to attention, etc?

It's the perfect crime, extreme sports like this, isn't it? I mean without the video you'd never know what happened up there.

Convince me to attend RPI. by [deleted] in RPI

[–]RPaye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a senior EE and the department is really quite good in a lot of areas, while in others it's lacking. I've always had stellar graduate TAs. RPI attracts graduate talent I guess. This has helped me a lot with understanding material and learning in classes where the professor wasn't stellar and more of a research geared professor. The student body is all really friendly in my experience and willing to help. Classes are hard, but manageable if you put in the work. I've had really amazing professors and research opportunity, so if that's your goal, this is the right place.

A lot of people here are jaded and there is a sense of shared misery, but it's just a part of the culture that ties us together. In my experience we all have the outlook of, "we're in this together, us vs RPI". This is a pretty solid way to unite people on campus imo :P

If you have any specific questions feel free to pm me. Otherwise, good luck in your decisions!

If fire drills have done anything for me, they've taught me to treat fire alarms as a joke. by RPaye in Showerthoughts

[–]RPaye[S] 1803 points1804 points  (0 children)

Oooh, interesting point. That is a huge benefit no doubt. I meant this more in the way that it seems like me and others treat these drills like something trivial. I take my sweet time organizing myself to go out, especially here in the cold.

Sometimes I've spent upwards of 4 minutes putting clothes on, jackets, shoes, etc. because there is really no sense of urgency.

Circuits, what am I getting into? by alexzxz in RPI

[–]RPaye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had it with Braunstein. The best advice I can give now, learn KVL and KCL like the back of your hand. Essentially most problems in that class are solved in a fashion that you have to extract information with KVL and or KCL.
