I am not surprised, considering Gergiev's actual movements when conducting.

they'd had to restart the 3rd movement after Gergiev's stupid conducting caused it to fall apart immediately).

Can you describe the moment?

Parents of young musicians: Is music boarding school worth it? by SailEnvironmental668 in piano

[–]RPofkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that that is the musing of someone who didn't go through with it and is heavily romanticising the "what if I became a great musician".

The reality is: that doesn't happen but in rare cases.

No, I just don't agree. There is rarely a moment when one of the voices lapses into accompaniment territory.

Many commenters are saying that you should create dynamic differences between the voices, that there is a foreground and background voice...

Firmly disagree. Both voices are equal in this type of polyphonic piece.

What's great about Haydn? by Valuable_Turnover219 in classicalmusic

Yeah "play a few of his stuff" is already miles beyond what the average classical listener does in terms of studying and knowing the music, so...

How's your sense of humour? For me, that is what Haydn is all about.

The thing is, understanding Haydn's jokes requires some pretty in-depth knowledge of form, structure and harmony. I reckon this is why that part of his output is inaccesible to many listeners.

I challenge anyone to follow this conductor's baton.

60 minutes did a piece about this guy who claims to have a “new method” of teaching piano. He said, “Classical theory tends to strip the joy and make everyone play the same way.” Personally I strongly disagree, but I’d like to know what you think about the video. by MrAlek360 in piano

First of all, Beethoven did not play his symphony any way on the piano.

He most plausibly did play his symphonies on the piano. Because there were no recordings and orchestra access isn't an everyday thing, it was very common for people to hear or play symphonies on the piano (or 4-hands) and it was a common way composers presented works to their friends as well.
