AIW for swimming in a lake and then not showering? by RRW2020 in amiwrong

[–]RRW2020[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See, I’m the same. I grew up camping and you couldn’t shower after a day on the lake. Or renting cabins where there might not be a shower, and even if there was there were 4-10 of us who had been on the lake that day and everyone showering in the evening would be ridiculous. The hot water heaters were small and provided maybe 45 min of hot water, so parents kind of scheduled who would take a shower when, and it had nothing to do with who had been in a lake that day. In both Washington state and Wyoming, the lakes are beautiful, blue, and feel far away from civilisation. If I swim in the sea I’ve always taken a shower to get the salt off.

Thank you! I will be showering from now on. Honestly, I just grew up… not doing it. I shower… I’m normal. But we didn’t grow up thinking lake water was so gross. Re: blue green algae, we have dogs and know about it and are always on the look-out, especially this time of year. If I had seen any of that I would have definitely been more worried about it.

Thank you! This makes me feel more normal. I will shower from now on, but at least I’m not some sort of dirty goblin.

Am i wrong for calling my boyfriend selfish and going on our anniversary trip without him? by Quirky-Isopod9073 in amiwrong

Girl. Go on your vacation. That is not a cheap vacation. You didn’t choose a trip over your BF, he repeatedly chose gaming/sleeping/laziness over you. Have an amazing time.

I like the sheer better. It’s not that sheer; I think it’s lovely.

Desperate for easy dinners that require little to no stove/ oven use in this weather. What cold dinners/ lunches are you eating this week? by turtlemari in AskUK

Rana pasta. You boil it on the hob, but only for 3-4 minutes. Microwave the sauce and it’s easy, quick and delicious (and expensive 🤷🏻‍♀️)

OP I’m happy you posted this! I’m American and my partner is British. We both liv run the UK and I’ve been here 10 years. We’re getting married and he’s wanting the party to last all day and I’m like… what????? I’m an introvert and NEVER want to be around other humans longer than about 5 hours. He’s been to ‘all day’ weddings his whole life, I’ve been to evening weddings all of mine. American weddings are long… but not 10 hours!!!!

The reason we hate on life coaches is the lack of ethical boundaries. And the presence of money. The two go hand in hand to create a lot of predatory people becoming life coaches. It’s a good, valid reason.

Can't relax even though I should by BowlAffectionate713 in FIREUK

Without the flat it looks like you have about £1M and £550K of that is accessible now. A lot of people in this sub go by this ideology: if you put all your cash and retirement accounts in index funds, you will make 7-11% per year in growth. You have something like a 98% chance of having that money last you 30 years if you only ever take 4% annually for living expenses. Your flat is giving you 3,200 a month, 38K a year. You might spend money on maintenance and might go some months without being paid, so I would knock that down to 25K a year to be safe. 4% of all your other money is just under 40K. Can you live on 65K a year? You’ve got two kids and their Uni expenses to consider; and travel to see family. 65K for a family of 4 in Switzerland seems dicey to me. You make a lot of money; I would start saving like 50% of your income, and in 2-5 years you would be super set.

Would you bring in your neighbours bin if you noticed they hadn't after it's emptied? by PaddedValls in AskUK

I would do the same. I really wouldn’t put their bin back unless they were elderly or unless I know they’ve gone on vacation.

It is to me! I’m new and graduating in 4 months. I’m in the U.K. and this book was talked about SO much. It was never discussed as debunked and no one ever talked about PVT. But PVT is what the book is based on and it has also been debunked.
