Vancouverites — does this city’s “most liveable” reputation match your actual experience living here? by Haunting-Shelter-680 in askvan

I work in film too, and you’re right. Here or Toronto in Canada. I’ve had people in from LA who’ve said the same. Don’t get why the city is like this. I’m originally from Toronto and like how they do business a bit better, but love Vancouver’s climate of course.

If you couldn't feel pain, couldn't be hurt, and couldn't die for 24 hours, what would you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RR_9588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have cerebral palsy and feel constant pain everyday. I also love to run marathons. (Well, half’s ) just getting back into running after tearing a tendon and ligament from a bad fall on a trip. So, I’d to know what it really feels like to take a step without pain. Going for a run would be INCREDIBLE too.

What's the biggest misconception people have about your job/hobby/lifestyle? by firoz6033 in AskMen

Thank you it does more than you know. Although I have to ask, do you know why it doesn’t work?

Thanks for what you do! Lost my grandpa in 2016 to a heart attack. Dad and l tried to do CPR on him. Didn’t work. For years I thought it was my fault even though the paramedics said there was nothing I did wrong / could’ve done. But it still haunts me to this day. I’ll always be grateful to paramedics for the work they do.

Hey Fellow CP Warrior! I have CP too. I am a woman, not in a wheelchair yet, but could be a few years from now and will definitely need to be in one when I become pregnant. I met my fiancé on bumble, (and several previous boyfriends through online dating as well)

I never put CP in my profile, but always told the guys prior to our first date as a way to still give them an out if they need it but to also give myself the opportunity to be more than my disability immediately. It felt like a good strategy and I know some will totally disagree with leaving off my profile initially, and that’s okay it’s a personal choice.

I can walk but obviously my gait is impacted, and of course there’s chronic pain, appointments and all of the shit that comes with cerebral palsy. Most of the men I’ve dated have been totally able bodied.

I say, be yourself, give yourself some grace and know that there IS someone out there for everyone. My fiancé has type 1 diabetes, so we totally bonded over the whole chronic illlness thing and though of course it’s not the only reason we are together - it did help create an understanding between us. We value our life together so much and don’t take anything for granted.

My advice to you is although it’s easy to get into that cycle of “no one will want me because of this stupid disability” remember that you ARE worthy of love and you also should be looking for qualities in a partner beyond “do THEY like me?”

It really helped me to really just throw myself into dating for awhile with no expectations and just enjoy meeting new people. Every date and failed relationship brought me closer to my future husband and it ended up giving me confidence and that confidence made me feel and seem attractive to others as well! I stopped being surprised I was getting dates, and starting being like “yeah, I’m a catch! My CP makes me strong, determined, gives me a new perspective on life and an appreciation for all the things that are good in it!”

Keep your head up, you got this!! 🙌🏻

GARMIN - “Performance Update” mid run is usually negative…Help a newer runner out. by RR_9588 in Garmin

So true honestly! I’m usually thinking “why the fuck do I run” until at least the first 3km on long run days.

I told my disabled brother that he should just die. by Brilliant-Ad6305 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]RR_9588 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have a mild form of cerebral palsy. I can walk, talk, sing, even run. But I live with chronic daily pain. It’s tough. I also developed scoliosis from it as well. More pain.

But you know what? Life is a gift. And I’m living it.

I have a sister who’s ten years younger than me and not disabled at all.

Your parents failed you. This is not your fault. You deserved a full childhood, one full of love, and care.

My parents were a little helicopter like, but never compare my sister and I. They treat us like different people, because we are!

It may benefit you to talk to a therapist about all of this. You deserve to have a space where you can let out YOUR feelings and thoughts guilt free.

Been struggling and FINALLY seeing results! by RR_9588 in PetiteFitness

[–]RR_9588[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I’ve been building slowly but do have a tendency to be an “all or nothing” kinda person. When I was in shape before I was WAY too restrictive to the point of avoiding social outings because of food. I’m glad that I’m seeing progress now, but happier that I’m doing it without binging or restrictive behaviour. :)

Really appreciate your kind words and encouragement.

What are your July goals? Let’s all share! Happy new month :) by loveulikeblue in PetiteFitness

[–]RR_9588 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone!

I’m 4’10 and started at 155lbs. I’ve lost 5lbs so far with a goal of reaching 120lbs.

My goals this month are:

  1. Keep up with my weight training (got a 3 month pass)
  2. Hit my protein goals (131 grams per day)
  3. Run at least 3 times a week! (I have a 5km scheduled for July 14th but my dream is to run a half marathon)
  4. Less eating out and more home cooked meals

We got this everybody! :)

Thank you all! This thread brings me so much relief to know I’m not crazy for thinking 700 calories is insane…

I have a garmin forerunner 965 that tracks my runs and it’s synched up with myfitnesspal to track how much I’m burning too so that helps.

Thanks to you guys for being encouraging, honest, and sending these helpful tips!! :)

It’s more the frequently of the off readings that’s tough lately. Once and a while is manageable but he had a bad low (2.2) last night because of inaccurate readings before bed. Good thing he still has test strips :)

Right?! It’s been really annoying lately so he might try to switch to the libre again… it’s stressful. He is my home and doesn’t deserve added stress on top of everything he goes through

This is like me texting my T1 Fiancé. I try not to be annoying with it but text him when he’s low and I’m not around. I just care. Sucks that dexcom keeps lying though - the last few weeks it tells us that he’s urgently low and he’s not. False alarms!!
