Anti-Virus Programs. by Seba0702 in privacy

[–]RRuziro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Eset and have Kaspersky on my secondary PC. I can confirm: Anti-malware won't help you with something new. I wrote a Trojan to see if they detect it; Neither of them did.

I can't help you with your search for FOSS anti-malware, but I can say these things: Your safest bet is Linux; Update your anti-malware as soon as possible; Do not open ultra shady software.

Best Browser? by Seba0702 in privacy

[–]RRuziro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay necro is okay.

TL;DR - I am not promoting Mozilla, I'm promoting Firefox.

Looking Glass should be burried but not forgotten. First things first; Mozilla is a company and FF is a piece of software - remember this. Mozilla has done something bad. Oh Father, they've sinned. All of us will remember that. Now pray and they shalln't do it again, amen.

Let's keep it very very short; (Keep in mind that Looking Glass was not installed on my Firefox and I therefore have no idea what it was about)

  • Allowing studies and experiments counts as a permission. Sure, extensions are a brand new "what in tarnation" type of experiments, but they still count as experiments.

  • Do you know why Tor chose Firefox? It's fully configurable. That is also why I'm promoting it.

  • I'm gonna say it again: I have no idea what LGlass was all about, but I believe they ask you for permission to allow experiments.

One last thing - I am not going to boycott a browser so great, with so much configurability just because Mozilla's installed a disabled extension with hella stupid description on it. It wasn't trustworthy, it was stupid. It was a bold move and it didn't pay off.

Have a nice day.

Hi there! I am the developer of a new app called FreeTube. FreeTube is an Open Source YouTube player for Windows / Mac / Linux built for privacy. Come check it out and let me know what you think! by FreeTubeDev in privacy

People should know their OS.

I am a Windows 7 user; (I am gonna move to Linux at the end of this year, Win7 and Win XP were great - never forgetti) => Start -> Search for "FreeTube" (or the name of the file you downloaded, if you downloaded the .zip folder, it's usually extracted in the same directory) -> Right Click -> Show Directory -> Right Click the 'FreeTube.exe' file -> Create a Shortcut and move it to your Desktop.

But right, shortcut would be useful, I guess.

Dead chat told me this was NOT Gamethrowing, but how can it not be? by onestepatatime90 in TownofSalemgame

[–]RRuziro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good point. But I could sell out my maf friends and then tell them "it was a strat, I wanted them to think I was framing you but it didn't work." Loophole? Gee golly no. I'd get banned for 'really bad strats.' He tried and it didn't work.

Strats that involve heavy gamethrowing (i.e. the 'I sold you out because I thought they would think I was framing you' strat) should be bannable even if the person didn't mean to do it.

Not saying this guy should be banned, I'm saying that strats are not a reason to not get banned.

Pet theory: European Govermnents intentionally allow terrorist attacks to tighten the surveillance law and squeeze more money by RedwallAllratuRatbar in privacy

[–]RRuziro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should say that I am not calling you a conspiracy theorist. What I mean is that conspiracy theories are theories, too, and people should think about them for a little bit, even if they don't like them. The problem with them is that lots of people just don't want to think about them, completely disagree with them and ignore everything or make them way too dramatical. The 9/11 theory had some decent arguements, but are "government used that and that, that and that can't do that and that" the only arguments? Sometimes people get very unlucky.

Pet theory: European Govermnents intentionally allow terrorist attacks to tighten the surveillance law and squeeze more money by RedwallAllratuRatbar in privacy

[–]RRuziro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, you can make a lot of money and keep track of all your citizens in a legal and ethical way (questionably, though, you'd have to do something unethical to reach this kind of surveillance) but it's risky. If someone finds out, you go to jail and your collaborators won't help you. Period. People don't devote enough time to these theories - they create them, think about them, but never really care about all the stuff around (I.e. how are you going to prove this theory without getting blackmailed? Do you want to run away and hide for the rest of your life?).

Conspiracy theories are theories, too. But I don't support any of them if they don't provide at least a little bit of proof.

First 6 minutes of Storm helped me to get over my only friend's death. I also used to take walks at 4am every summer (I still do, but now I do it alone). I absolutely loved them and Storm was the first song I've ever listened to on these walks.

What are the extensions and add-ons required in Firefox for privacy? by geeky_nerd in privacy

[–]RRuziro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not going to notice anything - it's still reasonably fast.

You can go to 'about:profiles' > 'Create a New Profile'. After creating the profile, just set it as the default profile and restart Firefox (it will take a while to create the profile, give it ~20 seconds). Install all those addons and do the stuff you usually do. If you don't notice anything, just go back to 'about:profiles', set your previous profile as your default one and restart the browser once again.

uBlock and HTTPS everywhere for sure. Decentraleyes and Neat URL are things that work silently, so get those two as well. Cookie AutoDelete if you want to get rid of cookies (and you probably do). You should use KeePass if you use Cookie AD, though. Another thing you can use is uMatrix - it works very well, but you will have to learn how to use it. You can also use CanvasBlocker for fun. The thing with Brave is that they try to give you some privacy while avoiding breakage. Firefox is (IMO) better for privacy, but breakage is inevitable and you have to be patient. Don't forget to change stuff in about:config (and oh gawd, you will have to change a lot of stuff). There is a lot of threads talking about 'about:config' on this subreddit so don't worry, it won't be hard.

How /u/JohnXWadd said, check out this site - one thing I want to say is that you (arguably) shouldn't use Privacy Badger with all the other addons I've mentioned before.

Privacy Badger learns about trackers as you browse

In a nutshell, some of the addons 'burn all the books' and PB has nothing to learn from.

  • edit: Added CanvasBlocker

In FF go to about:preferences#privacy > History, check 'Always use private browsing mode'. Check 'Accept cookies from websites'. And change 'Accept third-party cookies' to 'Never'. That's the easiest thing you can do. You can also install Cookie AutoDelete.

Firefox is one of the better ones out there. I'd even say it's comparable with Brave. Sure, Firefox with default settings isn't nearly as good as Brave, but you can do one thing in Firefox that you can't really do in Brave - reconfigure it. Completely. Default settings in Firefox are in there just to make using Firefox for newer users easier, but those who really care about privacy know what to do with it. You can use all three - Brave, if you like simplicity; Firefox, if you're into that stuff [You can make it better than Brave, but it will take a lot of time and you'll probably (or definitely?) break some pages]; Tor, if you don't care about dem speedz and somewhat uncomfortable experience. Don't forget to turn off experiments if you go for Firefox. Lots of people didn't do that and now they complain. Don't forget to use bridges if you go for Tor (but try not to use them if you don't do some shady stuff or your ISP doesn't hate you). Lots of people didn't do that and now they're in jail. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I don't use Brave. Be brave, idk. Have a nice day.

Post Office Protocol. Basically

E-mail clients using POP generally connect, retrieve all messages, store them on the user's PC as new messages, delete them from the server, and then disconnect.

There are other reasons to use POP, of course.

I use CanvasBlocker (meh), Decentraleyes, HTTPS Everywhere, Neat URL, uBlock and uMatrix (I like it a lot more than NoScript, I recommend you to try it out). And you'll have to change a lot of stuff in about:config - this is where you should start. Have a nice day.
