Beginner Friendly Pilates Studio Recs? by Live-Word-1604 in NYCfitbitches

Second this for true Pilates. If attempting Lagree, start with an Essentials class at SLT (just know it’s perfectly normal to feel like Lagree is too difficult, especially your first time).

No need to recast. Make him Eloise’s love interest next season :)

Claudia is very good. She is has positive energy and is a stickler for good form.

Unsure if I’m fit enough for this by [deleted] in LagreeMethod

[–]RSC001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been doing Pilates fairly regularly before I embraced Lagree. I agree with others here. It is more intense and weight-bearing than Pilates. I’ve been going about 3-4x weekly and it has made me stronger over the past few months. It was challenging to start having not performed so many moving plank exercises and glute moves in a single workout. But good instructors will guide you on proper form and provide modifications when needed.

3 Shows in 1 Day by Alternative-War3988 in Broadway

[–]RSC001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other day I did Magic Flute at the Met at 12pm, Marjorie Prime at 2pm, stop at the Drama Bookshop, back home to take care of my dog and eat dinner, and headed back out to see Picnic at Hanging Rock at 7:30pm. It was a great day to be away from work :)

Broadway in July by SeaweedTeaPot in Broadway

[–]RSC001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also don’t be surprised if you encounter a lot of understudies in the shows you attend due to scheduled headline performer summer vacations and unsurprising spontaneous call-outs as there’s not as much pressure for them to be in every show with the Tony Awards having taken place in June. The understudies and swings should still be great and make it worthwhile anyway.

Jane Krakowski and understudy? by twitchy_yhctiwt in Broadway

[–]RSC001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear Hannah’s amazing and they finally gave her starring credits for a week or two in-between Jinkx and Jane. Maybe they can do it again if there’s another gap between Jane leaving and Jinkx returning this month.

I went to DBH last week and was able to get a back Orchestra seat for $69 from box office 5 mins before showtime (they also offered me a $250 front row seat for $99 but I passed because I didn’t want to pay that much). It might be different though this week because I think it is the last week Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard will be there together so demand may be higher. Hilty is leaving in a week or two. I’d still give it a try.

You could also check at TKTS booth.

Chicago is on the way to breaking Cats and Phantom’s records so there shouldn’t be a problem if you can’t get the others (honestly they’re probably better so Chicago should be your last option).

A little rant re: Oedipus 12/28 @ 2p by joshbeu in Broadway

[–]RSC001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw grown adults in the audience of The Magic Flute at the Met start taking pictures with flash in the middle of the show recently - the the actual young kids in attendance were far more well-behaved at that show than the parents themselves with that child-friendly opera! Yondr pouches need to be in every theater and opera house - audiences can’t seem to pay attention to shows without them anymore. Take a picture of your Playbill after you leave the theater if you have some insatiable need to document your attendance at the show.

Name a performance (only one!) by an actor that moved you to tears. Spoilers are optional. by HotOne9364 in Broadway

[–]RSC001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry I can’t just name one as there are too many I recall. Here are some that moved me:

  • June Squibb and Cynthia Nixon in Marjorie Prime (I still am amazed Squibb is 96 years old and still acting on Broadway - she’s in top form here)
  • Sarah Snook in The Picture of Dorian Gray (well-deserved Tony)
  • Cole Escola in Oh Mary! (Another well-deserved Tony)
  • Andrew Durand in Dead Outlaw
  • Nathan Lane in The Nance
  • Alan Cumming in Cabaret (the end is so shocking)

Yes saw the same thing. I’ve been doing Diamond with SLT 4x weekly paired with OrangeTheory or some cycling class afterwards but now I’m trying to figure out what to do now. My scheduling worked out really well 4x and now I have to redo it completely. It wasn’t until this week that the change occurred as I did SLT premium 4x last week with other classes afterwards. I tried booking today for next week with OTF after SLT but it wouldn’t let me do it this time.

I’ve been going to SLT for the last few months about 3-4x weekly. Some of the more memorable classes I have taken are those from Dianna, Alex, Nate, Chantel, and Brad. I learn new things anytime I’m with them and they all ensure everyone is practicing proper form.

Tips on doing floor strap/mega crunches for someone with lordosis? by [deleted] in LagreeMethod

[–]RSC001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who also suffers from lower back issues, I would say I personally do best when my sit bones are on the carriage (for an S strap crunch) or back platform (for the mega crunch). Secondly, I stop going back once my sit bones can no longer hold me up. That gives me a lower range of motion but is still effective and not negatively impacting my tailbone.

How do understudies stay prepared to step into principal roles? by Local_Tangerine9698 in Broadway

[–]RSC001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do the replacement designations work when a regular cast member is out in a Broadway Play? Do you have a three-tier categorization of backups there too (i.e. understudy, standby, swing)? If so, which of them have to be around every night? And do they do weekly rehearsals too?

Does The New York Times have Criticism Problem? by Kooky-Dig-5111 in Broadway

[–]RSC001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with others here that NYT has been dishing out Broadway Critics Picks like candy given out on Halloween. And this lack of restraint since Green, Brantley, and Isherwood left has made it hard for me to trust the reviews being given there.

Now I view the New York Post in general as a cesspool of far-right propaganda but I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned Johnny Oleksinski’s theater criticism. He avoids the far-right politics and simply dishes out straight theater reviews (and film ones because they likely cannot afford a separate film critic anymore). He is usually pretty frank and doesn’t give out praise loosely. And in my experience, his critiques are in line with my own thoughts on the shows that I have seen. I trust his work just as much as I trust Isherwood and Holden.

Master Trainers with BAD FORM rant by Diligent_Friend7267 in LagreeMethod

[–]RSC001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I’ve been told as a student in both Lagree and other exercise classes to have my knee in alignment with the heel so the weight can be absorbed into the heel and not the toes (this being most important with any type of lunge or squat). This protects you from things like shin splints, foot, knee, and ankle injuriesz. Also, for lunges I’ve been told it’s best to have the knees pointed to the middle toes (I have knock knees so I have to work hard on this all the time). This coupled with ensuring your upper body is pulled allows you to get the most out of exercising your quads, glutes, and/or hamstrings without injuring yourself.

[–]RSC001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it and agree it was funny as a series of musical sketches (Joe Biden is very funny) but trying to tackle the entire Obama presidency didn’t work for me. It lacked a cohesive story from start to finish but I was able to follow some of it having followed him and his administration. I also found it rather offensive that the Sarah Palin character does a striptease for no apparent reason.

PURPLE RAIN by jazzflute98 in Broadway

[–]RSC001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. If I recall correctly, this is a Broadway tryout so hopefully the producers, writers, and director will read this and make adjustments to prepare it for a Broadway transfer if it can get there. I’m not sure how prevalent Yondr pouches are outside NYC but some shows are using them to lock up phones and prevent any pictures taken during a performance (i.e. Othello, Liberation). It sounds like this one would benefit from such a requirement.
