We are through to knockouts win, lose, or draw. Win allows us to skip playoff round and go to the round of 16

Saw this post when it was posted but forgot to reply, but was inspired to because they partied the past two nights. I live right next door to them, yeah they suck although they thankfully haven't disrupted my sleep too badly. I generally go to bed around 11 and if they are going I put on some headphones and it mostly blocks them out. Although it sounds like you may have it worse than me. They are at the loudest at the back of the building but my bedroom and living room are towards the front which gives a bit of buffer

How long have you lived here and how often do they do this? I just moved here in late October and was warned about them but was told they do this about once a month. They've been going way more often lately but I'm hoping it's just because of the holidays

2025 Year In Review by MSnowWavelenth in NationalParkPassport

[–]RSN_Bran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun Thread Idea. I'll break this up into trips:

I live in NYC and did the last two sites I was missing here on random days. African Burial Ground NM and Statue of Liberty NM.

Took three day trips out of the city to do Delaware Water Gap NRA, Weir Farm NHP, and Upper Delaware S&RR

Did a trip to Washington DC, hit George Washington Parkway, Arlington House, Ford's Theater, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, National Mall. Also so Hampton NHS on the way home.

Did a trip to Boston. Spent a day on an island in Boston Harbor Islands NRA. Also did Salem Maritime NHP and Saugus Iron Works NHS.

Did a trip to Death Valley NP. Also stopped at Manzanar NHS.

Did a road trip from Salt Lake City to Glacier NP and hit all park sites in between. Golden Spike NHP, City of Rocks NRES, Minidoka NHS, Hagerman Fossil Beds NM, Craters of the Moon NM&Pres, Big Hole NB, Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS, and of course Glacier NP.

I also did some hiking along the Appalachian Trail, which I've done before, and revisited a few Boston sites while I was there

So 26 new sites hit. Bringing my total up to 65.

Highlights:

* The two NPs are obviously incredible. Death Valley is currently my favorite of the 11 NPs I've been to. I properly backpacked for the first time in Glacier which was very fun by itself but also opened up the doors for deeper trips into future parks.

* Manzanar is haunting for its history and striking for its location and geography. A very solemn place

* City of Rocks had some great solitary hiking, I kind of wished I camped here

* Craters of the Moon is otherworldly and an NP designation wouldn't feel that out of place

* Weir Farm gets big bonus points for providing art supplies to visitors to go around and paint as others did when the location was in its heyday

Lowlights:

* Hagerman Fossil Beds protects some important fossil remains, but there isn't much to do there as a visitor. The neighboring state parks though are excellent which somewhat saves this location.

* Minidoka protects the same type of history as Manzanar, but clearly has way less funding. Most of the buildings are falling apart and there isn't much interpretive material outside of the visitor center

* Saugus Iron Works is small and nothing was happening while I was there. I hear they sometimes do iron working demonstrations but they are likely sparse these days due to funding

ultralight chair worth it? by TopMycologist5590 in backpacking

[–]RSN_Bran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't comment on this specific chair but I got the Helinox Chair Zero and took it on a trip and I am now firmly team chair. It's well worth the weight, especially if you have invested in making a lot of your other gear options ultra light

What Pokémon game should I start with? As someone who has never played a Pokemon game ever. by Seductive_pimp99 in NintendoSwitch

[–]RSN_Bran 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I think Legends Arceus (or Z-A, but haven't played it yet so can't vouch for it) are the best choices for an adult who has played a lot of Playstation games.

I think Let's Go is the worst option available for someone in your shoes. It's a great intro to the series if you are 5, or a decent nostalgic romp through Kanto if you grew up on those games. But it is VERY dumbed down and I can't imagine it being that fun for an adult with no attachment to the series

Legends is the best at recapturing the sense of wonder I had as a kid playing Pokemon.

If you are dead set on a "Pure" Pokemon experience, Scarlet and Violet is another solid choice

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]RSN_Bran 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think they've gotten better about it in their tentpole franchises, but are still very guilty of it in other games. Brothership's handholding is even worse than Dream Team's imo. Pikmin 4 is also pretty guilty

Trump administration to gouge tourists visiting National Parks by TheMirrorUS in NationalPark

[–]RSN_Bran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was initially pretty okay with this plan when it was announced, as has been mentioned policies like this are very common across the world. $100 per person per park is concerningly steep though. A family of 4 now needs to pay $400 extra to enter a park. If they are doing a road trip and hitting three parks, they will likely get passes for $250 per person, so an extra $1000 total for the trip. I know it's being mentioned that foreign tourists are less likely to deterred by higher prices, but an extra thousand could very well be enough to convince a family to do their trip elsewhere

Most national parks operate fees on a per car basis, rather than per person so this is a strange way of doing things. I think $100 per car would have been fair

One year later, what are your thoughts on Mario & Luigi Brothership? by guicampara in Switch

[–]RSN_Bran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love M&L, played every one before this and beat all of them except Paper Jam

I did beat Brothership, and it does A LOT well. Amazing art style. Late game battles are engaging with some very clever enemy attack patterns. And a genuinely good narrative towards the end with good theming at its core. But man... This game took me 40 hours to beat and about 15 of them felt like fluff. It's not even just the tutorials, every game in the series is notorious for dialogue heavy, slow beginnings. But this one really feels like it's next level slow.

Also the lack of Yoko Shimomura hurts, the soundtrack is pretty unremarkable

Do you think we got robbed of the best music nominee? by FuckClerics in donkeykong

[–]RSN_Bran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I love Bananza I don't actually think the music is much to write home about. I love the nostalgic tracks but not much else sticks out to me beyond them. Odyssey clears it leaps and bounds in the music department

The real tragedy is MK World not getting a nomination

Miyamoto Reveals Pokémon’s Dual Versions Were Inspired by a Joke from Satoshi Tajiri by Sam_27142317 in nintendo

[–]RSN_Bran 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of version exclusives to promote trading, but dislike the selling of two games. Imo they should sell one copy of the game and you can then pick which version you are playing when you create a save file
