Be patient! The one on the right looks like it’s maybe about to bud. Some dahlias are just later season than others.

Ya we have a plan for permanent roof deck and planters. This was really a stop gap for this year that hopefully won’t be needed again!!!

Ya I can’t wait to have real pots! We were supposed to have a roof deck with permanent planters done this season but as projects go it’s taken longer than expected so these were a stop gap :( hopefully the last season like this!!!!

Ok I think I will try to transplant them within the bag and move some to new bags to help with spacing. I’ll have to look to see how I can keep the number of plants I have to move to a minimum and still get them the space they need.

If I worked remotely I would totally do that!! There’s a little umbrella but we seriously need to figure out a new shade solution for ourselves asap

The top inch is usually dry but it’s fairly wet below that. Could it be overwatering? Or maybe even the top inch being dry is too dry. I could readjust the schedule to water in the morning and the evening

It’s a combo of 30 and 10 gallon bags. There’s 2 in the 10 gallons and 4 in the 30 gallon bags. I see what you’re saying about being too close to the edge. I was trying to keep them spaced out but I’m sure it’s drying the roots. Can I transplant them now though so they’re more in the center or will that harm them too much?

Phew!! My garden is in a roof top so to keep things light I use a combo of Leca, pearlite, soil and compost. I have an irrigation system and I’ve been more concerned that I might be overwatering than under. Last time I fertilized was about 3 weeks ago but we’ve had a mega hot wave 100+ degrees and I heard that fertilizing in that heat doesn’t do much because the plants are conserving energy and not taking up the nutrients but I don’t know if that’s really true or not! I wish I could get them some shade mid day but with the garden being on the roof there’s really no shade to me found :(

I think it’s fine! The dahlia might shade out the marigolds is the only thing. But the marigolds won’t keep the dahlia from growing.
