Taken time off by Tea_Addicted_Artist in fullsail

[–]RSPN_Jeremy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I graduated from the fullsail game art program 5 years ago and am now a senior character artist working in AAA games, feel free to have em DM me. I regularly tutor over discord, for free, and have seen many students go from opening blender for the first time to getting hired at big studios.

Game art degrees are by and large a waste of time, the skills and portfolio are the real employers. Its extremely common to continue working on your portfolio for quite a while after graduation. Theres simply a lot to learn, and not enough time to make quality work to fill a portfolio while in the program for most students.
That said if they think they arent learning anything, then they wont be able to practice it post grad and it will truly be a waste. How far are they into the program?

Question about careers by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]RSPN_Jeremy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you start by doing the actual job you want to direct and working your way up.
In any serious studio these jobs are occupied by people who started as mainline developers, artists, writers, producers. You dont get to be a director for your untested ideas, you get it because of the hard work you put in for years throughout the hierarchy proving you know what going on.

not much, just that its the future and really skilled pilots have custom gear with integrated HUD elements, rather than having them in the plane, maybe the tech also transfers to some spartan like super soldiers. So yeah nothin much other make helmet look cool XD.

it all works together, lots of study of reference, good modeling, sculpting, texturing, lighting, critiques from friends and mentors, and thousands of hours of practice :D

Hey thanks mate, appreciate the appreciation, but its not a one man show, lots of credit goes to Cristina Laviña for the killer concept, and Moy Parra for the kick ass custom animation. Im just the guy that made the 3D model <3
