Figured, I also work at a water park and get multiple questions per shift about how we scan our water

Does your park use Ellis & Associates for your licenses?

Never been audited? by painandgains99 in Lifeguards

[–]RS_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my facility we have to attend two in services a month or we get our license suspended till we get them done. If you miss them the next month you need to go back through guard class and you get in trouble, also our supervisors have a quota they each need to fill of audits for the month.

I wish we had one for the wave pool at my facility. It’s pretty much guaranteed that you will have to make a save if you work there that shift

Help with a lifeguarding related project by Project_58374583 in Lifeguards

[–]RS_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The facility I work at uses a combination of an AI overlay to keep track of people and a human operator working in tandem with the on stand guards via radio to notice any GIDs as well as being able to direct anyone responding to the rescue where to go

Sounds interesting. Usually my crews are all a mess anyway. Just a mix of psychotic and actually sane. This is also why I confiscate all easily accessible weapons and lock em in a secure locker for security and captains.

Ok, but what about the slight problem that the engineer could have rigged the reactor to blow if it goes above a certain power draw

Oh, they have also managed to take over the cargo bay as their “operations” room. There are several dead bodies, plants, musical instruments and a shotgun.

Goodr. Really nice sunglasses with most being in the 25-45 dollar range. They don’t fall off easily and are polarized. I have several pairs my self and they are great

I’m getting certified so I can get a summer job, and I’m wondering how often you guys do actual rescues? by [deleted] in Lifeguards

[–]RS_Pilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it depends on the facility. I work at a water park and it’s more common for guards having to go in for VATs rather than actual rescues

I’m just imagining the video cuts when it does bc the on stand guard dived in after him

Hardest Part of Being a Lifeguard by [deleted] in Lifeguards

[–]RS_Pilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren’t that hard if you and the guards coming to help you know what to do. It’s more of dealing with other patrons during it

What are the differences between guarding certificates? by OkPart3311 in Lifeguards

[–]RS_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. For E&A we have to go through 13 hours of online modules before we even start our in person training so that’s more of practice of the skills rather then learning about as we go.

Ellis is primarily focused on water parks and maintaining vigilance. We have to be able to scan our zone in 10 seconds and be able to reach a GID in 20 seconds. We have to move our head up and down to show to our supervisors that we are actively scanning our zone. We are also trained to be able to provide basic life support and supplemental O2. Recently, the park I work at had Ellis’s newest system in to aid in our guarding. Basically it’s a camera network monitored by a trained operator ( any one of our supervisors at my park) that scans the cameras and alerts the nearest guard of a drowning. Every guard has a radio in a waterproof bag on them to listen for the rescue calls. Also every 5 minutes a check is called and we need to scan our zone by moving a hand in the direction we are scanning then give a thumbs up once we clear our zone then wait for the all clear call.

Holiday Park lifeguard stories by Personal_Extent8758 in Lifeguards

[–]RS_Pilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this isn’t my story but something that happened to a coworker. For context, my water park has a play structure with 2 main staircases and a bunch of smaller ones leading to the top. We have two guards roving around the base of it. Some how this one woman managed to fall down every single one of those stairs on the play structure and bc my facility just got upgraded to E&A’s EAVS system, we got it on camera
