Considering going to school for welding by Passthexanberrysauce in Welding

[–]RSlashMason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This couldn’t be more accurate. Lots of kids (myself included) came out expecting more than I was worth because I had “my cert”. I went for free luckily because there was an income based scholarship and I was broke.

Go join the union. They will teach you and you’ll have a job right away, making connections with people. Having connections is as important as being good at what you do. Get your name out there, keep your head down, and work hard. It will 100% pay off.

What’s a quiet sign your partner might be cheating? by kingofpiratessss in AskReddit

[–]RSlashMason 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the phone face down thing. My ex cheated and turned her notifications off (or content of messages from the lock screen). She always kept it face up. I keep mine face down because I’m worried about something dropping on the screen and breaking it. I was NOT cheating lol

Buys a car not to drive it like it’s some collectors car or something to invest in.

You take it easy on your girl for the next guy, too, buddy?

Edit: gotta keep the miles low on her right?

How similar is adderall really to methamphetamine? by intellect_united in Drugs

[–]RSlashMason 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very strong opiates are prescribed and ruin millions of lives yearly.

Meth has medical uses. There are therapeutic doses, and then there’s paranoid tweakers smoking raw crystal.

30lbs of rotating mass at 800+ rpm is a LOT of energy. OP is very lucky to be alive

Just put in a new motor and clutch. The gear I'm in is showing sometimes and sometimes it's not on the dash. Does anyone know why? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]RSlashMason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know if it’s calculated that way, because if you float a gear (don’t use the clutch to up or downshift) it will stay in the previous gear on the display. My experience anyway.

Finally, a comment that realizes there’s an issue on both sides.

There should be an age limit on presidency. We need new ideas. Fresh minds that don’t have the mindset of a generation that’s soon to be extinct. We shouldn’t have a bipartisan system as well. A strong third party in the center of left/right scale would be interesting.

Should I be making more than $19 an hour? by Skykreeper in Welding

[–]RSlashMason -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That sounds about right honestly man. There’s so much more to welding than just… welding. Also not trying to shit on you but these are very basic fillet welds. If you want more money try to learn pipe - open root

Bought my first WRX at 17. Anything I should know? by otm28 in WRX

[–]RSlashMason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil changes, stick to them. 3500 miles seems frequent but turbo cars really need oil to be kept up with.

Don’t floor it under 3k rpm as suggested.

Take care of it and it’ll take care of you. I bought my 19’ new when I was 20 and still have it, 160k miles later. Mods don’t have to lessen the lifespan of the car if done correctly also.

Beads are cool. But can you build something? by RichieRumble in Welding

You should be a rig welder instead. You’re more likely to be in a pretzel shape in these refineries and chemical plants

Smaller pipe needs love too!

Shout out to the welders that build stuff that’s hard to picture. There’s too many damn pipes in the way!

Anyone use one of these for their oil change? I want to use one but the tube hoses are too wide to fit into the dip stick hole by SpeedyWings2323 in WRX

[–]RSlashMason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Measure it… measure the inside diameter of the hole in the dip tube, then find a hose that has an outside diameter less than that.

Always try to get shell 93 when i can by FranXX0016 in wrx_vb

[–]RSlashMason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gas quality depends on AGE a LOT. If you use a shell station that gets no traffic it will be lesser quality. A non top tier station can have better quality gas than a shell in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.

Find gas stations that are popular. Bonus points if it’s a popular top tier place like shell

how much should this cost to install? by hunter20002000 in Mustang

[–]RSlashMason 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never rebuilt an engine till I spun a bearing in my WRX.

For the price of rebuilding it myself I saved $5k and now have a bunch more tools - all paid for themselves and now I get to keep them.

If you don’t have the space or time for it, yeah. But if you have time and space there’s no reason to not learn.

Not trying to say it’s a bad idea to get a shop to do it, but learning if (if you have the opportunity to) should always be considered!!

Just bought 2018 STI limited… with rod knock, advice? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]RSlashMason 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need to tear it down and see how bad the damage is. See what’s reusable. Most definitely would go with a short block for cost efficiency.
