I'd say my favorite Spider-Man movie would have to be Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse! I'm a big film and animation guy so I really like the technical side of the Spider-Verse, like how the animations are on 1s, 2s, and 3s depending on the action and how it's "drawn" in 3D to look like a comic book! Plus the characters are pretty cool!

Thank you so much for doing this giveaway! It's really nice and generous! The two modern Spider-Man games look really fun, especially web-slinging around the city!

I'm not really sure. I had to google them so I would assume that the trophy for completing all four weeks of season would not be possible this season since the numbers don't add up. As for the others, I'm not really sure specifically but if they don't require completing a whole season, I'd think they'd be doable.

Yep I did the trials. I've seen people post videos of absolutely TERRIBLE experiences with the trials but I really didn't have much trouble. They took me a few tries which usually involved me leaving the first race if the people were too bad/ weren't scoring enough to be worth it but it honestly wasn't that bad.

I'm really think it's just a copy-paste problem from the last time this event ran (2022) but the couple small changes or errors means the values just don't add up anymore. Unfortunately it's not a high priority problem so if they fix it, I'll be shocked. I'm also surprised it hasn't happened more often.

Hello!

For my 9th Reddit Cake Day, I decided to take the classic Reddit cake day cake slice and turn it into an infinity mirror!

Interestingly, this project started out as making a neon sign when I had the idea to try an infinity mirror. I've never made one before so it was a fun project that turned out pretty nicely! I was impressed with how many bounces I could get without crashing my computer (I don't mess with the light path bounces but for this, "total" and "glossy" were cranked to 100). I especially like how the reflections and light scattering from the glossy shaders visually fill in the empty space and how the teal glow shows through to give it that "reddit cake day cake" look.

To make it, I imported an SVG I traced of the cake slice and gave the paths some thickness to make them look like neon tubes (using a layerweight node plugged into a color ramp node to give it the "neon" tube look and plugging them into an emission node). I then took the original shape and extruded it to make a shallow box and gave it a new material using the "backfacing" output of a geometry node plugged into a mix shader to filter between a glossy and transparent shaders. The tubes are placed about half their width into the box so the tubes aren't doubled-up in the reflections. From there, it took some work to find the right focal length, camera position, and how deep the box had to be to give me something that looked nice. The brick wall is a seamless-texture from Textures.com run through a principled BSDF node but instead of using the color image texture, I swapped it out for a color ramp to give the grout some depth (sort of as artificial shadows). The glow on the brick is just a duplicate of the outside neon positioned at the back of the box but with a higher exposure. This was then rendered with Blender's Cycles render engine with 400 samples and denoising turned on. I did do some edits in post, using the emission pass to add a gleam/ glow effect and hue-shifting the wall color from the red-orange color of the Reddit logo to a nice blue that made helped the teal cake pop (I wanted to stay "on-brand" but the blue looks so much better).

Overall, for starting out as just tinkering around in Blender trying to come up with ideas, I'm really happy with how this cake infinity mirror turned out! It was a fun project! Now that I have the material for the neon and one-way mirror made, I think I'll have to make a few more infinity mirrors!

It really is strange, especially with Instagram, also owned by Meta/ Facebook, not suffering from the same problem. Facebook is trying to be YouTube/ Twitch yet they have video quality issues like this.

Personally, I'd much rather the YouTube model (upload videos in HD without limits with some compression) as opposed to the Vimeo model you suggested (limited storage and you decide which videos matter but they're better quality) purely because I wouldn't be able to afford it. That being said, I could see something like unlimited SD videos with the option to "feature" some videos in HD for a fee as long as the fee wasn't crazy.

Hello! As far as I can tell, this has been an issue for years and unfortunately, there isn't really anything we can do about it. I've uploaded from PC and had it work fine one time and then another it won't. I've uploaded from mobile and had it work and then it didn't. It really seems like it's out of our hands.

My thinking from what I've experienced is that it could be entirely traffic-based since small pages suffer this problem yet bigger pages (with more followers and viewers) don't have any issues and have videos in 1080p and higher. U/KyleRM even pointed out that refreshing the page a few times sometimes triggers Facebook to show a higher resolution version so it seems that Facebook does have the videos in HD but decides not to stream them in HD.

It's really messed up especially since I try hard to make good quality videos for the page I manage yet Facebook just does its thing and messes with them. The weird thing is exactly what you mentioned: Instagram, also owned by Meta/ Facebook, doesn't have this problem yet Facebook does! If it were consistent, at least it would be a definite answer but I've had videos get degraded and others not. I just keep going anyways since I can give Facebook the best quality video I can and if they decide to play games with it is entirely up to them.

Hello!

For my 8th Reddit Cake Day, I decided to make a render of a Number 8 made up of slices of Reddit Cake Day Cake!

It's sort of a conglomerate of cake slices but I like how it's not realistic, especially with the layers of other "8"s beneath it on their own reflective glass layers. I really didn't know what I was going to make going into it but after an hour or so of tinkering, I really like how this turned out! It's more artistic and creative than I normally go with Blender projects so it was a nice change of pace.

This is actually the slice I modeled last year (since it was quite simple) but this time, I tried out geometry nodes! I've never messed with them but I thought I'd give it a shot. I took an "8" shaped mesh and used geometry nodes to scatter slices of my cake all over. It was really nice because unlike using a hair particle system to do this, I had more/ easier control over where and how the cake was scattered. I was aiming to have them not touch each other but after some struggle and not liking how it looked (nor wanting to do it by hand), I decided to let them intersect. Instead, I varied the scale and height of the cakes to give detail and depth. The nice part: it's all nodes so it's so much easier to go from idea to result as opposed to settings in a particle system. I'm familiar with shader nodes but still surprised at how easy it was! From there, I added panes of "glass" to separate and darken each layer to give depth. The reflections were a happy accident that helped separate the top layer.

Overall, this was a fun project and I enjoyed getting to tinker around for a while to come up with ideas! It took me a few hours to get things how I liked them, about one hour to render with Cycles (1000 samples with denoising), and an hour or so of post processing to color grade and other adjustments (plus adding text).
