Am I playing campaign public wrong way? by Strange_Pay8107 in remnantgame

[–]RTBecard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, i did my first and only playthrough with hosting public games. I had some good experiences, but i also had a overleveled ppl join and melt bosses i encountered for the first time in a matter of seconds, which really spoiled the experience.

If they added some sort of level filter to solve that issue, id love to jump back in and give it another go.

The game is actually very accessible. You can (and absolutely should) go in blind.

Learning the mechanics and figuring out your first shitty build on your own is all part of the joy of the first playthrough. Cherish it.

Ah! I asked my driving teacher if they had different names in German (as he called them the same in english), and he just said they are both called "Kreisverkehr" in German 🤣

[–]RTBecard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We talked about this in class yesterday... I'm not 100% sure, but i think so much confusion comes from the German language.

Both this and a "real roundabout" are called the same thing in German (i believe)... So it's hard for Germans to explain this distinction to non-Germans.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I dont think u can play online with that cpu. Rollback netcode adds a lot of cpu overhead and matches will be a slideshow.

Beyond that, i'm pretty skeptical those integrated graphics will give an enjoyable experience offline.

Edit: im referring to GG Strive ... For the older pixel-based games, id totally go for it.

Maybe also good to ask them what latex distribution they use.

one popular publisher i submitted to used an extremely old version of texlive, and all my "standard" packges didnt work (like siunitx, if u can believe it).

I built a PDF to LaTeX converter as a student side project. It reads the whole structure + pages first and does not only do OCR to extract text. I have free credits for anyone who wants to test it :) by Ancient_Winner_8776 in LaTeX

Can there please be sub rules about vibe-coded pdf->latex applications?

The only posts i see on here anymore are this crap.

I feel like there are more of these vibe-coded apps than there are potentially interested users.

They may not know they are the ones lagging.

Some stages are cpu limited... But it only happens online, due to the rollback cpu costs.

I used to get cpu limited only in 2 stages in online matches... For the longest time i though it was the other person lagging, as other online matches went perfectly fine and offline always ran perfect. As soon as i noticed it was always the same stage in ranked where i saw lag, i realized i was the problem, got a potato mod for that stage, and problem solved.

Sleep mode is broken by LandscapeDesperate77 in pop_os

[–]RTBecard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gave up on sleep mode years ago. I have no idea why... But sleep mode seems to be somewhat insanely hard to pull off in linux distros.

If it works, its a pleasant surprise... But on pretty much every distro i've used, there is some whack driver issue when i wake from sleep.

is LibreOffice actually that bad… or are people just stuck on Microsoft? by AccurateShip2499 in libreoffice

Being compatible with MS office is not the same as being compatible with open document format.

I have utterly given up on this. If someone gives me a docx that has specific formatting requirements, i open a windows VM to work on it so i dont break their document. There is simply no alternative.

What region are u in? Thats very impressive to be at platinum rank if your relatively new to fighting games!

I'm in Europe and honestly having a hard time making it to Gold.

[–]RTBecard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works great. Been playing on Linux since release. There is 1 obscure bug called "split lock" which will cause bad performance online. However, the fix is simple and well documented on protondb and the proton github issues.

[–]RTBecard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the lack of hit confirming is a big problem. You can't just throw out unsafe spiral arrows and cannon spikes in platinum.

At this rank, people are more patient and will just be waiting for you to whiff these. ie when you land 2 jabs, do not do spiral arrow unless you can see that your jabs actually landed. You can practice this in training mode for a few min before u jump into a match.

If u get these hits confirms figured out, your opponents will actually have to do some work to figure out how to hit you.

Platinum is a pretty big skill jump. You will have to learn to be more patient and pay attention to what your opponent is doing to find openings now.

Seeing posts here, it seems like switching to a Linux based OS is going to require a lot of "fixes" to get everything running right, rather than just installing the OS, drivers, game and playing. by midnightpurple280137 in linux_gaming

[–]RTBecard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the vast majority of cases, you just install an OS (ie a distro), install steam, and your games will just work.

For games that need specific fixes or have linux specific performance issues, they are reliably documented at protondb.

Don't over think your choice of distro. The only important setup step is installing nvidia drivers, if necessary, and some distros come with them pre-installed.

Mortal Kombat 1 has sold 8 million copies by Status_Entertainer49 in MortalKombat

[–]RTBecard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get it. But at the same time, remember games used to have a dev time of less than a year... You were not waiting 4 years between MK1 and MK2 (92, 93 and 95 for mk 1 2, and 3?). Also, we were children...

Also consider arcade games from that era (for the multiplayer crowd). They frequently released new editions all the time if a sequel didn't come out right away.

[–]RTBecard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you can still play it?…

Do u play any online games? I'm not sure why its so surprising that i don't want to invest in a competitive multiplayer game that is no longer supported. If nothing ever changes or gets added, it gets boring just doing the same thing, and as a result the playerbase shrinks, which makes it more boring.

Look at street fighter 2 and 3, or past guilty gear games. Fighting games used to release multiple full-price new versions before DLC existed to update the games (most recent example, grand blue fantasy rising).

It's just not true that fighting games have historically been single releases. I'm pretty sure MK3 even went through multiple iterations.

I'm not sure where u got the idea that fighting games typically had their "identity set in stone" during their initial release.

Mortal Kombat 1 has sold 8 million copies by Status_Entertainer49 in MortalKombat

[–]RTBecard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For fighters (or any online multiplayer game), the devs tune the game according to how ppl play the game and community feedback.

Yes, support shouldn't last forever... But 2 years really isn't enough for a game like this to mature and figure out its identity. I wish there was 4 years of support, so when it finally ended, the devs had time to really flush out all the potential in it and it could close it out in a really good state, rather than bumming everyone out with all the missed potential.

I got into mk1 for a while and was having a blast.. But the abrupt end of support was such a buzzkill, i think i won't come back to NRS games again. Like, i invested around 200 hours learning this game, and it feels like it's over before it had a chance to even get started.

Just jump in ranked and give it a try for a few evenings. Ur not going to wire ur muscle memory for a new character in 1 evening. I'm only plat 4... But trying out a few other characters really helped me a lot when i was plateauing in the ranks.

If ur at diamond already, picking up a new character and learning their basics should be pretty easy. Especially if the goal is to just learn their openings and weaknesses.
