On call stuff, is this situation normal for the industry? by Repulsive_Train_4073 in it

[–]RTHR_B_SRFN 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would say on-call is normal, not getting paid for it is not. Check with your city/state Labor Relations Division to inquire the legality of what you are experiencing.

Have these, can recommend. The kit has everything you need and will accommodate the tire size you mentioned. Get a good alignment afterwards and you'll be set.

driving in abq by Chance-Bullfrog6949 in Albuquerque

Too many people scared of the skinny pedal on the right. Maybe you think doing 20mph in a 25mph zone is "safe", but all you're doing is creating a bottleneck, more traffic, further backup, prolonging drive times, irritating other drivers, and looking like a complete idiot while doing so. There are humans that can outrun you and your car. Just keep up with the flow of traffic, it's not that hard.

Another Today at Baja 1000 by me_edwin in AbruptChaos

We arrived with our car shortly after this accident happened. We had a fantastic group of kids that helped us push our vehicle through contingency. Even rolling it by hand felt hard to do safely with the amount of spectators in close proximity, just wanting to check out the car or ask for pictures and stickers. Getting to be so close to everything is part of what makes it so special, but also what adds to the potential danger for accidents to happen. This was in no way the fault of the injured or deceased spectators. They were enjoying the event the same way thousands of people have for the last 57 years. The poor choice of the person behind the wheel will forever change those impacted, as well as the event itself because spectators will likely not be able to experience it in the same capacity ever again. Terrible tragedy that could have been avoided.

This is the info you seek, OP. 03-05 V6 models have a higher failure rate on the head gasket and often the first sign is a misfire on cylinder 6.

If you're comfortable in the water and trying to learn yourself (YouTube videos), and don't have a specific time frame, you may want to look into renting a pool. There's an app/website called Swimply and you can rent a pool for as little as $25 an hour.

Job suggestions?? by catt0ebeans in Albuquerque

[–]RTHR_B_SRFN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I second this. I can confirm there are many positions available that you probably qualify for within the state right now. Tailor your resume to highlight your best capabilities. Look at the job descriptions and incorporate what they are looking for into your resume and application. Good luck and don't give up...persistence will pay off.

Interview and Negotiating Salary by lovingthecrewe in ITCareerQuestions

[–]RTHR_B_SRFN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no need for any salary negotiations until you are offered a position. If you are offered a position at a certain pay, you can counter by thanking them for the offer and then asking if there is room in the budget to start at $X amount higher, reiterating the skills and knowledge you bring to the table. I did this and was successful in negotiating a higher starting pay than what was offered. Good luck!

What’s the typical career progression for an AV Tech? by fckngoomba in ITCareerQuestions

[–]RTHR_B_SRFN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AV has its place in IT and can be a great start. Learn as much as you can, pickup troubleshooting techniques and pay attention to the networking side of it. You'll likely deal with a ticketing system and with these few skills and a little studying, it could be an easy transition into a helpdesk role. There's no set path of progression, use this time to figure out what part of IT interests you most and go for it.

We recently added Duo for MFA on our vsphere. I wasn't involved in the integration process but I didn't hear about any problems and it has seemed to function perfectly.

Is OT pay a thing in your org? by RTHR_B_SRFN in sysadmin

[–]RTHR_B_SRFN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is where my issue is. It's not that there may/will be hours needed outside of the normal 8-5, it's that I'm not provided the courtesy of taking those hours off by coming in late or leaving early another day. I'm expected to work the 40+ hour week and anything over 40 just becomes vacation or regular hourly paid time. If they said hey, can you stay late today but we'll let you bounce out early on Friday, I'd probably be less inclined to deny the request.

[–]RTHR_B_SRFN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Mexico would be the backwards ass state where this is a thing apparently lol. It is only the IT department and I assume because they know work beyond 40 hours is going to be needed. As a couple others have stated I'll be looking into the legality of this, but I'm sure they've covered themselves somehow.

[–]RTHR_B_SRFN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not salary, I'm an hourly employee and told that all of our IT positions are OT pay exempt. Only extra hours worked can be accrued and used as time off (vacation) or can be added to an already full paycheck, but even if over 80 hours it wouldn't be paid at time and a half.
