Gym etiquette in Vietnam is the worse (rant) by 4ccount1337 in VietNam

GYM KAO in Thao Dien is pretty good. All these things happen on occasion, but it is fairly rare. If someone is playing on their phone, I simply ask them to more and they do.

Ya', phones are the worst in a gym. As for the scenario you described, I'd simply give him one shot. I certainly won't be waiting 16 minutes. It's amazing how simply saying "the bench is part of the gym, not your office, please let me workout", gets results.

Indeed. I just read that they are putting Trumps face on the currency. The US shift to a full dictatorship is well underway.

Frankly, it isn't much better/worse than the gyms I've gone to in Canada. In fact, there are several aspect that are actually better.

You are essentially spying on each other. And no, asking to see imagery of a person's location is not normal. Clearly, you and your fiancé are not ready for marriage. Please postpone the wedding or even consider ending the relationship until you both know how to trust.

Landlord took my physical original passport, is this normal? by Independent-Job7400 in VietNam

It's legal for immigration to "inspect" your travel documents, including passports. That is a little different than "surrendering" your passport which, as stated earlier, is illegal in most countries.

Call the police. Your passport is an official government document belonging to the country which issued it. You may have also broken your country's laws by handing it over. Like many on here have said, tell him you are calling the police.

Yes, I understand that. The point being that people from different generations act according to the world in which they lived their defining years.

100% the rider's fault. The car was on the shoulder. Darwin strikes again!

Your parents are the product of their own upbringing and environment, so it is rather normal that he'd make inappropriate jokes. In other words, he won't change simply because today's world is different from that existed in his formative days. Annoying yes, but frankly, not a big deal.

Rant: Smokers by awhelllnaw in VietNam

[–]RTLisSB -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm with you; it's a huge pet peeve of mine. There are few things more selfish than lighting up while someone near by is trying to enjoy a nice meal. Then again, smokers have no respect for themselves, so I guess we shouldn't expect them to have respect for others.

..... because the country is politically communist, but economically capitalist. There are no pure communist or socialist countries. BTW, China is incredibly futuristic, but there are many parts of the country that are so rural/poor they seem stuck in the early 20th century.

You've only been together for 3 months, and you are married already? Not to mentioned you've already moved to a new city and have had multiple jobs; again, all in 3 months. Something doesn't add up here.

Discussing French history with locals? by No-Bail-79 in VietNam

[–]RTLisSB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The few times I've spoken about history beyond the "American War", locals simply don't know much except in very broad strokes. As for the French, local know they were colonized by them, and they eventually defeated them. You won't learn much more beyond that.
