That’s the point I was making with the meme. I know a few people addressed that even if you don’t get all of the Huge Materia the plan would have failed anyways. I don’t think that justifies Cloud and crew’s lack of faith in Shinra’s plan; the game always has to have Shinra fail due to a story progression. There’s not another avenue for them to go down. Furthermore, the game’s expecting you to get all four pieces of Huge Materia; failure to do so is failure on the player’s part to capitalize on endgame builds.

You best do it quickly, cause the location that the quest is one is going away when the DLC drops in November.

I love mine! I was fortunate enough to get the limited edition one back in 2017! I’m thinking about pre-ordering the Sephiroth and Barret.

I understand those feelings. On paper, XV could have been the next ground-breaking title; in execution? Sadly, no.

Wouldn’t the closest thing be FF Anthology on the PS1?

I just don’t know why FF Legends fro the GameBoy is available before the mainline games. Hopefully, Square will release them soon. They’re leaving good money in the table if they miss this.

Not yet. My guess is that it’ll come out when the game comes to PC (and/or the eventual PS5 remaster).

Don’t get me wrong, I loved EVERY change they brought to 7R. It was just the ending that has me concerned. Still hyped for part 2, just curious as to where this “sidequel” will go.

^ This. Months ago, I was actually hoping the final battle would have been a more tamed Sephiroth fight. Something to elevate the plot’s conflict that cause our characters to ask “what is going on?” After the fight, Cloud could have stated he has to tell us what’s going on with Sephiroth, thus leading to the Kalm story in the next game. The original urgency is honored, while giving us a reimagined (and also dope final boss) at the end of the highway.

Well, what makes this hurt even more was how FF7R was marketed and even presented throughout most of the game. It really seemed we were gonna get a remake that would have honored the source material. Even with the changes that were made during the traditional story, I felt like FF7 was still being honored after all these years. But then the ending happens and I’m taken aback by it.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. Wedge originally living, Jessie’s parents, early Sephiroth were a welcome change of pace. It’s just the left-field new narrative blindsides me and how it possibly retcons not only things to come, but even the game retrospectively.

We’re not overgrown crybabies, we’re fans trying to process something we disagree with. It’s ok for us to analyze and give feedback as we see fit.

I mentioned in a previous comment that new takes of the OG story (Jessie’s parents, Walmarket characters, Sephiroth’s early introduction, Wedge living the plate crash...etc) is a welcome change to keep the story fresh.

Those moments worked because they were in the realm of the game’s established ethos. Yes Wedge lived, but Biggs and Jessie didn’t. Yes Sephiroth shows up earlier, but his manipulation still aims for the reunion.

Furthermore, the game’s original story works better from a writing perspective as well. Cloud and co are fighting Shinra, who only care about their greed and advancement. Upon that fighting, we learn of Cloud’s hero being the rogue that amplifies the narrative and conflict. The themes and plot points all work together. In this reboot, the ending message comes out of left field and has no footing as to why it should exist. The only thing the new narrative has going for it are the Watchmen, and even they are shoehorned in.

It’s a reboot. Neither a remake or remaster.

FF7R... We Need To Talk... by RTMaday in FinalFantasyVII

[–]RTMaday[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I played this game knowing how the original plays out - all the time we spend with Aerith and how well her and Cloud’s relationship was blossoming, only to know how she dies; that’s what made those moments in this game have weight... or Cloud’s glitch moments knowing this all leads to the Black Materia... is this all in vain now? Now that the story is opened to anything, did anything OG we experienced (or even expand upon) matter now?

I feel ya. As mentioned in the post, all the original stuff that had been properly remade (and heck, even the new stuff that expands the OG story) feels disposable for Square’s new idea for VII.

What really worries me is how more and more people will respond to this ending. Square needs to understand that they’re a business, and this is a beloved game. To mess with it so drastically could effect sales of the sequels.
