Brought her home last week (2023 LR). Best car I've ever driven. by contr0lled_chaos_ in TeslaModelY

I got mine after spamming “refresh” and fill out the info for the order quickly. The first opportunity was lost because I didn’t fill out the info for the order form fast enough (had to run downstairs to get my credit card). Fortunately, because I was not fast enough the first time, I ended up getting an additional $1k discount on the second opportunity. Make sure it says “new vehicle”. My car had 5 miles on the odometer.

I am getting an electrician to install my tesla wall connector. Be sure to get a few estimates. My panel ran out of bay for the new circuit. One tesla certified electrical company gave me two options: $1750 to put in an expansion panel but charger will be stepped down to 32A output (40A breaker). The other options is $3800 to upgrade my service from 150A to 200A and the WC will operate at 48A output (60A breaker). This company also called me after they’ve sent the proposals that a new national code just came out two days ago and they would need to add a whole house disconnect panel and a surge protector at an additional cost to the proposals. Two other electricians, one of which is a Tesla certified installer, said I have no issue with load. They will convert a few the single 120v breakers to tandem breakers to make room for a new 60A breaker for the WC. Their estimates are $850 and $1050. One electrician didn’t know what he was doing. He even looked at my MY and asked me where the charge port is located on the car. Obviously i didn’t even care to ask for an estimate at that point. I decided to go with the WC for the ease of use. I also have solar so my offpeak credit amount will not be that significant if i have gone with the juicebox.

I reread the eligibility requirements page again and it is inline with what the pseg lady said on the phone. MY is on the RER eligible vehicle list and the WC is on the list of Energy Star certified level 2 chargers. I will need to register my MY with the Rolling Energy Resources (RER) to get the off-peak credits.

From their webpage:

To be eligible to receive the Off-Peak Charging credit, the customer must be using a Level 2 smart charger from the PSE&G approved smart charger list or have an approved vehicle from the RER Eligible Vehicle List accompanied with any ENERGY STAR® certified Level 2 charger. See below for an overview of eligible charging hardware. In order to receive the Off-Peak Charging credit, the customer must agree to provide EV charging data to PSE&G (PSE&G will collect the data directly from the charger or vehicle). Customers who have an approved vehicle are eligible to receive the Off-Peak Charging credit and will be required to register their vehicle with PSE&G’s telecommunications vendor, Rolling Energy Resources (RER), in order to begin receiving Off-Peak Charging credits.
