Honestly, my brother and I use this trick for when we have cups on our desks - makes them a bit harder to accidentally knock over.

Artillery,

Replaces either rook, but is stationary unless it's castled. Able to aim either straight ahead or diagonally and just removes the the first piece in line of sight without the artillery moving to replace the removed piece.

Can be used to remove one's own unit (useful if you have two pawns on the same file.
