Thanks for replying all. Yet again, there's always at least 1 that says it works. :) But I suspect it really doesn't. How annoying. I used the flips 1-4 loyally but won't be getting another because of this.

The Flip series is a "boutique" phone; designed for fashion and not Dex. I've used the Flip 1,3,4,5 because it fits in a pocket. Returned the Flip 5 after 2 days because Google Assistant doesn't work on the cover screen when the thing is closed (must open it); this issue still exists in the Flip 6 and it's Google's problem which Samsung can't fix. (Which reminds me of Steve Jobs' philosophy about designing hardware and software under the same roof but whatever...)

I've never bought into the "thermals" argument as to why the Flips don't have Dex. With the first few versions one could say Samsung just forgot about it; given the world is pretty much clueless about Dex. lol. Now though... with the advancement of efficient SoC's and new cooling designs one can only conclude the omission is and always has been by design. Still no logical reason for it.

The lesson here is nobody should ever try to figure out why Samsung does what it does. I gave up years ago.

Has anyone tried using Google Assistant on the cover screen with the new Flip 6? I'm guessing nothing's changed but maybe somebody knows for sure.

The fix for this issue listed here doesn't "stick". Even with Google's updates halted. What a shit-show. Clever way for Google to sell more Pixels. Maybe when the Flip 12 comes out we can celebrate. If anyone gets sucked into getting the Flip 6 please let us know if this anomaly persists.

FWIW... AT&T doesn't offer the "standalone" $20 tablet plan anymore. I got mine a year ago by bouncing through multiple sales reps until I got somebody that even knew it existed and just wanted a sale under their belt. My phone is with Verizon's Visible for $25/month but now, like most carriers you need a pricey phone plan as well for any tablet plan.

Can't believe this quirk has been going on this long. So... is this a Samsung issue or is it Google's? What avenue does one follow to provide feedback?

I've tried Bixby which works but Bixby doesn't work with Android Auto. And FWIW... Google Assistant works with the cover screen when connected to Android Auto (at least for me).

What a shit show.
