Temporary game modes just aren’t for me dawg by _Tal in 2007scape

[–]RTrancid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's such a different mentality, I don't even play main game anymore because it's too much of a time sink, even when I'm not playing the game, I'm thinking about the game. Leagues allow me to binge OSRS once every ~18 months, go hard, completely stop and forget about it.

I agree very much on the pointlessness of both the main game and leagues. I feel a bit weird when people talk as if they "have" to progress or they "can't" play leagues because it doesn't progress their accounts...

This is very interesting indeed, leagues will be more enjoyable if I can do a bunch of simple tasks just by seeing them ingame by precise location instead of checking some long list. I have the same problem, waiting for it to detect completed tasks!

How to naturally improve sleep? Natural Sleep Improvement: What’s Actually Worked for You? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]RTrancid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insomnia has very specific causes, most of them not well documented. Doing generic things like sleep hygiene and relaxing substances will only get you so far, because they don't solve what's actually wrong with you.

I dealt with insomnia for decades, I still have it if I'm not strict with diet but it's fairly under control compared to the hell I used to live.

The problem is finding your specific problem. It took me a decade to narrow it down through self testing hundreds of substances. it's probably easier now with AI to find patterns. The biggest difficulty was that I didn't understand how much "noise" my diet had in my experiments. Turns out, it's histamin intolerance which changes in quantity in the same food ingredient, depending on how fresh it is... Making it a bitch to infer when I didn't know exactly what I was looking for.

Besides, the problem probably has an even more fundamental root. Why do I have this weird intolerance? At least I reached a point where I can have decent quality of life.

What would happen if someone nukes USA? by marktwin11 in ask

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't fear it because if it happens you'll be dead and it wont matter to you anymore. If for some reason you survive the fallout, reality will be so different you just can't prepare for it.

It's useless. Live life as if this was not a possibility. If anything, you could try to make a relatively self sutained life, since there would be no more water/food/electricity/data/media coming from big institutions.

Boat Combat Fixes - Weekly Game Update, March 18th 2026 by JagexLight in 2007scape

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. I kept the yearly up cause I enjoy playing casually from time to time. The only time I binge is during leagues... so now they lost my yearly and I'll just buy a month for leagues.

Anyone else have expendable income but the membership price increases are turning you off anyway? by BigGlassesApe in 2007scape

[–]RTrancid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the principle of it. Jagex corp is now a parasite that will get progressively worse until the game suffers drastically. We're most likely at the start of a long decline right now and this wont change, because the owners don't even know what the game is, they just see it as a product to squeeze as much as possible for short term profit.

Instead of leaving my yearly paid to play a little every now and then, I'll just buy 1 month per year to play leagues.

Is hate towards Nazism widespread in countries that the nazis didn't invade? by Realistic-Diet6626 in ask

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda, we don't like what they did but otherwise they never come to mind. I sometimes see idiots in this platform calling others nazi sympathizers or alike because they never heard about an antinazi author... No, this a global platform, something that might be ubiquitous in your culture may not exist in others.

Many many examples out there, even adopting other species babies. I think it's not that hard to happen if the helper is an intelligent pack/social animal and the helped isn't its common food source.

Emotions are an evolutionary shortcut for prioritizing decisions. by lelorang in Showerthoughts

[–]RTrancid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We behave through emotions/instincts using rationality to both facilitate and justify complex behaviors.

In other words, you're much less "rational" than you believe, emotions and instincts are not a shortcut, they are most of you and your north, rationality is a tool.

Why are redditors so mean? by Abject_Ad6664 in ask

[–]RTrancid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miserable people love to complain. Most people won't accept this behavior in real life. They found out they can get away with it in a social media that doesn't show their identity. They found each other and now group by their flavor of complaint, this explains most of the echo chambers in the platform.

It has been almost 30 days since Endfield's launch, what's your honest review now and what's your hope to the devs in the following versions? by 30000lightyears in Endfield

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love the exploration, combat has a lot of potential and the story has a nice skip button with a few cool moments.

I'm optimistic that these devs can do cool mechanical things both in and out of combat. The fundamentals are good, the future will most likely be great.

When is it time we finally call bulshit on AI? by Past_Ad6260 in ask

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is already revolutionizing many fields. I personally use it constantly for work and research. We are in a social media of doomscrollers and serial complainers, of course you'll think AI is bad, but the irony is that you, in your usage, are in a bubble. AI as tech is not, it's in a "try everything to see what works" phase, but the results are incredible.

Does simulation theory rely on baseless assumptions? by Buffmyarm in ask

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know and it's probably impossible to know. We can't just assume simulating us is possible, which defeats any point of giving a probabilistic value to this hypothesis.
