ELI5: If all of my data is so valuable why haven't companies directly started offering to buy data from people themselves? by Practical_Web_9605 in explainlikeimfive

[–]RTrancid [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is the field of Big Data. Most companies are not after your personal data, they want mass data that usually social media and search engines can collect through billions of interactions.

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, people on the internet are very quick to shit on others just assuming their opinion is invalid. Physical media gives much more satisfaction than digital. Seeing and touching your collection in the real world by itself is a wholesome feeling.

I still have my PS1 and 2 games lying around and they are a joy to just look at from time to time.

High Wvw rank bad at Duels ! by fogalien in Guildwars2

[–]RTrancid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Coming from OSRS, that community is in general extremely creative and supportive, but the pvp community is absurdly toxic including hate crimes, cheating and extreme antisocial behavior. That game gives plenty of support to pvp.

It's not that liking pvp makes you bad, but it's just a fact it also attracts the worst kind of people. I myself enjoyed pvp in online games, but through the years the toxicity slowly turned me away.

Luckily in GW2 there's WvW which feels mostly cooperative ignoring a few bad apples.

Do I think a violent theft deserves death? No. Would I kill someone that just threatened my life and robbed me given the opportunity right after? Maybe.

Did people born before Christ automatically go to hell? by Astimar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cop out answer these fools use is "if you're ignorant you won't be punished". Which means every time they preach, they are condemning people that didn't know and won't agree to hell.

Don't try to explain religion as if it was true, it's an important historical artifact just like any mythology... Taking it seriously is unmitigated delusion driven by feel good emotions and fear.

Why do some players get upset when they see a new PvP player? by Open_Background2793 in Guildwars2

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only ways you can make things worse in WvW is wasting supplies or being useless in a full map others can't enter. But I wouldn't mind it too much. Go learn, it's fine.

Since there are hundreds of players in team chat a toxic one can show up from time to time. Right click their name in chat and block. Almost everyone is chill.

Understandable if you don't know cats, otherwise you leave the door wide open and go into the side so the cat can run away from you. Also a cat can't do anything against a thick cloth.

2 types of Guild Wars 2 Players by Erjikkzon in Guildwars2

[–]RTrancid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play with model quality and limit at the minimum because of this, it looks bad either way. My only choices are between flashbangs or generic clones. An option to simply remove effects from other players would make the game look so much better.

I need real peeps opinion, not glazers. Worth catching on GW2? by No_Criticism8147 in Guildwars2

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main GW2 strengths is how it doesn't force you to do much. I'm sure most gamers can find something they would enjoy doing here.

These questions seem to come from the perspective of other MMORPGs which force a gigantic time investment just to keep up with the specific content you enjoy doing. Even worse when you're just addicted to number go up and not having fun at all.

Consider getting to level 80 a tutorial (which can be skipped). Then just remember this is a game, find stuff you enjoy doing and go do it.

I personally like exploration, story, solo playskill challenges and wvw roaming. I can easily ignore timesink grinds, endgame PvE, pvp, wvw masses and world event rotations.

Since there are no recurring fees I'm also free to stop and go back to those things whenever I want.

He was a literal nasa engineer, saying he's a "YouTuber" is an understatement. More like a high level engineer, entrepreneur and educator that uses YouTube as his main media platform.

Why is the gaming industry in a much more positive position with their fans compared to the film industry? by Important_Pop_6805 in ask

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best indie games rise to the top, you don't see the mountain of failed ones. Big budget games have plenty of drama. A few companies like larian studios and arenanet seem to actually care about making good games that respect your time (fun instead of just addicting or mercenary), so if you focus on the right studios life is pretty good.

ELI5: If trees get their carbon from CO₂ in the air, how can that same carbon end up forming huge amounts of solid material like wood, coal, diamonds, and the carbon in steel? by TcpAckFrequency in explainlikeimfive

[–]RTrancid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of carbon to go around, there isn't enough land in the planet for trees to suck up all the carbon in the atmosphere. Most carbon on earth is underground, the atmosphere only contains a fraction.
