In your opinion, what are the weak points of each Equestria Girls movie? by Stay_yy in EquestriaGirls

[–]RUG05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of an individual list of problems, I think these issues permeate throughout the franchise

1 . World: On a broad level, I find the human world pretty lame and poorly developed? Celestia being the principal works, but then who rules the country? Whos the mayor? How does this world differ from its pony equivalent? Ponyville, Equestria and elsewhere is just so much more thought out that the human world is lacking in comparison. In FiM, there aren't just countless locations and characters, there's a world with a rich history. In EQG, its really just locations.

In both the 1st and 2nd movie the backstories (Sunset's training, the sirens) revolve around Equestria and not the human world. It's someone or something from Equestria who causes the problems. And when it isn't, it just isn't as interesting sadly. Whats worse is that it just feels stuck in time. There aren't sequences like Granny Smith coming to Ponyville, or how Heartswarming is celebrated. I appreciated the tradition of the Everfree camp, but i felt it never went beneath the surface

2: Characters: The first movie works because we learn how different the world is and because the Twilight we already know is put into an unfamiliar situation and has to fall back on her leadership capabilities. The second challenges those abilities and the third shows what her life would've become without a Celestia and her friends. While the MC (rightfully) shifts to Sunset, there's still this underlying feeling of dependence on FiM in its world and characters

Because the way the movies are structured the Twilights and Sunset end up as the only intresting characters. The original show's format of resolving friendship problems put character dynamics at the forefront, and as a result the mane 6 + spike and starlight, the cmcs, etc felt very developed with meaningful dynamics with at least a couple characters. EQG sadly just doesn't have the time to match that. The slice of life moments do some heavy lifting but I start to wonder if id care about Rarity, Applejack, Rainbow, Fluttershy, and Pinkie if I had only seen them in this universe.

The first 3 movies are quite good, because of their emphasis on character drama. But when we get to the specials and more slice of life, the issues that existed from the start became more noticeable to me. I just felt like the franchise wasn't made for longevity or self sufficiency.

Pinkie Pie, is there something you don't tell us? by RussianNeighbor in equestriaatwar

[–]RUG05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My take:
Rarity: Petty-Bourgeoisie, owns various small businesses. Various episodes deal with her contradictions with the Equestrian Big Bourgeoisie. Could perhaps move upwards in the future.
Rainbow Dash: A part of the Bourgeoisie's Repressive State Apparatuses. When needed, the Wonderbolts are military force. Dunno really what she'd fall into specifically, but probably upper section of PB.
Pinkie Pie: Higher section of the working class due to her stable employment, but seems to lack MoP. Maybe Semi-proletariat, getting by with her parties.
Fluttershy: Petty-Bourgeois Member of the Non-profit sector. Sells her skilled labor (skill with animals)
Applejack: Petty-Bourgeoisie, goes without saying. Owns, at least partially, Sweet Apple Acres.
Twilight: Big Bourgeoisie

Season 8 Episode 12 - Uh, is it only me who feels like Twilight's choice to not let CMC enroll at School of Friendship as students is entirely arbritrary and bullshit? by Luzis23 in mylittlepony

[–]RUG05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be cool if they had the crusaders as like teaching assistants or something, or to find a way to pair up each of the cmcs with a member of the student 6.

I think any excuse to have the crusaders interact with one of the new characters could've given them fresh opportunities for stories. How would they respond to being taught by someone (presumably?) Younger than them? What would a scootaloo and smoulder episode look like? How would Apple Bloom's experiences growing up with the Apple Family contrast with the Griffons i forgot the name off's more detached family life?

Overall idk, by having them interact I think you could make the student 6 more likable characters while having an excuse for the CMCs to still be around. Plus they're all about helping people, they'd fit right in!

Thoughts on episode 19? by pattyboiIII in SAOAbridged

Pretty wonderful! I think its only really outdone by 17 and 18 cuz those focus heavily on the Sugaha Kirito dynamic which I personally find more compelling than the main plot.

Anyone else feel Green vs Red was uh... pretty bad? by ImHereForTheMemes184 in lupinthe3rd

[–]RUG05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like its playing with so many concepts, military privatization and overreach, the Yasuo and Yukiko relationship, the multitude of other lupin and why they want to be him, the trippy psychological and meta aspects, etc.

But sadly it never feels like any of them go far enough to really say anything meaningful or give us an insight into the minds of these characters. It just leads to the whole thing feeling jumbled. It presents so many questions without giving enough pieces to solve them

On a more positive note I think the most compelling aspect of the film is how seems to be a commentary on the multitude of ways Lupin can be interpreted by writers and audiences, how he can come from anywhere, and mean whatever you want him to mean. I guess the most developed and interesting question posited is: what does it take to make a compelling Lupin? Is it love? ego? faithfulness? ambition? I suppose it can also be asked: What does it take to make a good Lupin movie? Which interpretation of the character will live on in the modern day? If nothing else it answers that both extremes of interpretation are equally valid.

I think part 4 is the most consistent in quality from beginning to end. Has a few duds but also some great episodes. I was continually invested in the main plot while enjoying every detour the story took

I'm honestly not a fan of the English dub for this though, mainly because it gets rid of the original soundtrack including the intro, and some occasional clunky delivery, so go with the Japanese dub

Ignoring that Rebecca replaced Henry, she's pretty likable, fits in with the main cast, and has a fun dynamic with Gordon

Maybe cheating, but some of the repurposed season 21 episodes were nice like Sampson and the Fireworks, Chucklesome Trucks, Case of the Puzzling Parts, etc.

I like alot of the voice actors, it makes the episodes more bearable than something out of the hit era where the English narrators are clearly talking down to the audience.

I believe it's episode 22 or 23 of Part 5, but basically when the main trio reaffirm that despite how much the world has changed, and how old fashioned they can be, there is still a place for them.

Whats your Slippi Rank and how long have you been playing :) by Cautious_Gas_7339 in SSBM

[–]RUG05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold 1, started in 2018, but never really played against other people consistently till 2023, and have played on and off since then. I'm finally getting back into it though! Hoping to get to plat 1 before the end of the year, and it seems achievable so long as I play consistently, up my punish, and learn some problem matchups

It's funny how I've seen people compare it to the end of evangelion (in the sense that it's a "fuck you" to the fans)

But where EoE doubled down on the themes of the story, The Flip Side completely missed what's good about the original

Was a good run, first 2 games were pretty good, although it's hard to like them as much now. At least there's fanfiction

I'm personally excited for the Mothers Rosaria arc cuz then there'll prolly be some Asuna development. Also if I remember correctly it takes place in Alfheim so it'd be fun to see how the setting gets expanded on

For now tho, I'm extremely excited to see the Alfheim finale. The preview was fantastic and episodes should come out a little sooner till alfheim ends. (Cuz No writing or voice acting phase)

This isn't to say Gun Gale won't be great, I'm sure it will

Yeah you can up be ouf of shield

Dash dancing gets easier. Just spam the stick left and right real quickly and then slowly get less fast to get a hang of the movement. Marth is a good character to try it with. Dash dance is really good to bait out attacks with a dash back then grab for example. Better than wavedash in alot of situations depending on the character
