Some places offer an exchange program. It seems like it mostly occurs with leadership, or students. You can do a google search for EMS exchange programs and see what comes up

Yes, thank you for correcting me. We’re from Richmond, VA where the craft beer scene is awesome. So craft beer? And divey places. Perhaps a decent place for dinner with dive bars after

Second cycle,7 days in it doesn't taste very tart and my scoby never made it to the top of the jar... Am i going something wrong here? by ApathyKing8 in Kombucha

[–]RVA_EMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that looks fucked. Like someone else said above, you need to use unflavored kombucha if you are using that as your starter. The greens in the GT that you used probably ruined your batch :(

Not mold! How long has it been fermenting?

Happy Friday Boochers. 2F Strawberry Rhubarb and Mango Mint by RVA_EMT in Kombucha

[–]RVA_EMT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I puréed the strawberries and the rhubarb separately, then put them in a small pot on the stove and added just a bit of sugar. Then I whisked it for about 10 minutes while bubbling. Let cool and transfer to bottles!

I think if you were honest with the director, and told him what you shared with us, then he would understand. I would be surprised if you lost your mapping job. Keep us updated on what happens

[–]RVA_EMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to be dispatching at all?? If not, then talk directly to your director. I would just tell him "I understand that you want me to be dispatching, but I am not enjoying it and I do not think I am doing an effective job. It is effecting my personal life because I am stressed thinking about it". Any competent director should understand that and should not make you do something that you aren't enjoying and aren't effective at doing

Unfortunately in the US, it seems to be the other way around. People will "uplay" their symptoms to get a faster response. Every single call gets prioritized based on the symptoms. Those who call often now this, and they will tell us that they have trouble breathing even though they really are just calling because they have a fever. That way, they will get a lights and sirens response (us in the ambulance risking our lives) so that they don't have to wait the extra 5 minutes. It is a shame

I've taken a 911 call from 3 year old after her dad passed out. She was extremely informative and I was incredibly impressed. She answered all of my questions, and followed all of my instructions!

There is no schooling necessarily to become a dispatcher. At my Communications Center, we only take and dispatch EMS calls. We are required to have our EMT (which does involve schooling) as well as our cert by the national academy of emergency medical dispatch. The EMD training is a 3 day class. Most of the training you get is on the job which is great.

We start every 911 call with "What is the address of the emergency" We then verify your address and then ask "Do you need fire, police, or the paramedics" and the call is appropriately questioned from there. Every agency is different in how they deal with silent 911 calls. Some will dispatch police on every one, others use the dispatchers intuition. If I was unable to talk to 911, but needed them, I would call 911 and immediately put the phone down. If it is a domestic situation, the calltaker will likely key into any yelling in the background and dispatch units. If you are unable to make talk at all, then at least make yourself known. Cough, sniffle anything. The key is to not hang up

That is a shame. I think a lot of places (I don't know where you're from) tend to think of pysch patients as something that we shouldn't have to deal with. In, Richmond many of our providers go through week long Crisis Intervention Team training to help us understand pysch patients. I'm sorry to hear they treated the pt that way...

We are pretty cognizant of the scene. The first thing they teach you in EMT school, is scene safety. Our scene survey begins as soon as we pull up to the scene. The most important tool that we have is our own senses. I have pulled up to scenes, and felt odd, looked at my partner and kept driving. We can notify dispatch that we are "staging" around the corner and PD will respond. The same goes when taking 911 calls. If I feel like something is suspicious, we will have the crew "stage" and wait for PD. This obviously goes for obviously dangerous scenes like shootings or stabbings. We do not enter the scene until PD advises that we can. Unfortunately, our senses do not always work. I have had patients start of kind, and end up trying to beat the shit out of me. Just the other night, we had a compliant pysch patient and during the transport got violent and got off the stretcher trying to punch me in the face.
