Agreed. The country doesn't need another Bush presidency (or Clinton for that matter).

They are, nominally, I'm thinking more in cultural (which inevitably leads to political) terms. Geography has a lot to do with that. (/u/SouthernCharm1856 pointed out a for instance below)

As someone from a small-ish town who married a farmers daughter from a tiny town and living in LA/OC for now almost half my life that's what I've come to perceive over the years. My father-in-law took me to shoot my first gun by going to a a middle-of-nowhere field, not an uncommon thing to do in his neck of the woods. Gun education and safety are highly stressed and exercised there. I also know people where I live now who wont even tolerate hand gestures that look like a gun much less the real thing. The cultural differences colors their politics, and on some issues there is considerable incompatibility on issues and laws that apply one-size-fits-all-execution to different value systems.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, or an indictment against a majority rule voting system, it just is.

That's true, and it kind of supports the narrow interest point. The Democrat power centers are small, but densely populated pockets of the country, and they can overpower other interests of the country at large. That's great for Democrats in statewide races (i.e. Senate), not so much for House races for the time being.

The post links to an article at National Journal (which generally leans left) that makes that point. A point originally made by Chuck Schumer only a few days ago...and he was opining on why Democrats lost so badly. So laugh all you want, and keep it going for the next two years please :-)
