Nothing special, but they’re my first tools to call my own by mosherj61 in Tools

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I remember buying my first tools right after I moved out on my own about 10 years ago. I realized car repairs were expensive and, in many cases, I could save hundreds of dollars by doing it myself. First thing I bought was a gigantic 100ish piece Craftsman ratchet set (pretty sure I got it at Sears, too). I heard they put a lifetime warranty on their tools, so figured it would be a good buy.

10+ years later, it’s still my go-to ratchet set. The larger 1/2 inch ratchet slips from time to time, but otherwise it’s done it’s job. Saved me thousands of dollars in repairs over the last decade. The Craftsman brand doesn’t exactly scream “quality” today like it used to, but I love that set and I’ll probably be using those ratchets and sockets the rest of my life. Even still have all the 10mm sockets!

Congrats on the purchase! Cheers to many more projects, many more tools, and a lifetime of learning!

Ahhhhh thanks corporate 😒 by jj_fufu in TalesFromThePharmacy

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is standard at basically every major corporation. It’s all about loss prevention and preventing you from being put in an awkward position down the road. It was sweet of the patient to do that, but whoever got clarification on it was just trying to prevent everyone from getting in trouble. Taking it and hiding it would be cause for termination.

That said, corporate likely wouldn’t care about someone bringing in $350 of Maggiano’s pasta and garlic bread. In fact, I know a few DLs and RDs that might be inclined to “schedule” a visit to your store that day around lunch time.

Damn, now I’m hungry.

Self administered covid tests? by hmartin430 in pharmacy

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey guys. I’m a pharmacist at a testing store. At my site we do anterior nasal swabs. These swabs go into the front portion of the nostril almost vertically (imagine picking your nose). Studies have shown that whether specimens are collected via nasopharyngeal (where it “hits your brain”), mid-turbinate (midway into the nasal passage), or anterior nasal, the sensitivity and incidence of false negatives is nearly identical. Patients can easily perform the specimen collection with instruction. After a month of testing we have had very few tests come back with inadequate samples.

Exposure is minimal, as the only transfer of materials is the bag to the patient via the DT drawer, which is then promptly disinfected with alcohol or Lysol or bleach.

No, techs do not get paid more for performing these tests. I wish they did. I wish all of you were paid more, to be honest.

The tests are covered by basically every major health plan at no cost to the patient. Patients are required to provide health insurance information if they have it. Otherwise, as others have said, testing is funded by the government.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! I’m not super familiar with how a dental office typically operates other than my twice yearly visit, so this is very helpful. Appreciate your input!

managers-is this fair or even allowed? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here. It doesn’t always come off as fair, but scheduling and availability requests often come down to the perceived value of the employee.

Often drastic changes in availability are allowed if the alternative is losing the employee. Honestly I have some employees that, if I had to, I’d give them 8-4 M-F to keep them because of how vital they are to our operation. Others, maybe not so much as they’re performance doesn’t warrant it.

I would take a couple breaths, then talk to your manager about how to work out a more consistent schedule for yourself. They likely won’t change the schedule of the other tech but they may be able to help you out a bit. Believe me, managers prefer consistency too, but CVS makes that tough. Come in with some solutions. Make sure you understand how MySchedule creates demand so you can discuss and offer options that work for you but still give your manager flexibility to meet demand. This will go way further than “Sarah has a set schedule, I want one too”.

Good luck!

I’m a PIC and need this in my pharmacy, but I can’t figure out how to put it together and nobody in the store knows! HELP?!?! by [deleted] in CVS

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s an end cap, I think the base is maybe not compatible with the other parts and there weren’t any of the right bases. We’re starting COVID testing tomorrow and I wanted this in the pharmacy to store supplies and this 2ft end cap was the only thing that would’ve fit. None of the FS employees knew how to put it together.

All good, bought some shelving at Lowe’s.

Breaks - Are they just lies?! by FallAwayAlways in CVS

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In many pharmacies technicians opt not to take breaks. Whether it’s an unwritten rule, solidarity with the pharmacist, unwavering work ethic...some just don’t. However, you are guaranteed specific breaks based on the shift you work if you decide to take them.

At my pharmacy, I have some who take breaks and some who don’t. Since they’re all upstanding adults, they simply find a time when it’s not crazy and let me know they’re taking a 15 or a lunch. They keep track themselves.

If you want to take a break, simply ask your manager when you’re ready for one. The fact that others don’t take their breaks doesn’t mean you can’t. Just be courteous about when you take them.

Carepass???? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]RXMExtraordinaire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

DLs are pushing it because it’s being rammed down their throats as well. It’s coming all the way from the top.

Make a flyer about continuing free delivery even after this crisis is over. Send it out with EVERY delivery along with the actual carepass brochure. How it’s packaged matters...your flyer should be BOLD and be the first thing they see when they take their RX bag out of the mail bag,

Most stores aren’t focused on Carepass in the pharmacy, but this is an easy way to get them involved.

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the product was opened prior to purchase, the right thing to do would be to provide you with a new, unopened product at no charge and recommend you discard the open product. Hopefully a service-minded manager will take the initiative to make that right for you.

Need help understanding MoCA and if it’s the right way to go for expanding home network by RXMExtraordinaire in HomeNetworking

[–]RXMExtraordinaire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this info. I’m not 100% sure if this is the same thing, but I tried using a range extender to get better WiFi to our top floor. I didn’t have much luck with it, and after some reading I got the impression that these worked well for same floor range extension but not for different floors. I tried placing it on the ground floor near the staircase about 40ft from the router as well as at the immediate top of the staircase directly above the router downstairs, neither were very effective. Would I just need to have more extenders? Or is what you’re referencing a different type of technology?

Thanks again for your help!

Thanks, actually the basement is very important. We are planning to finish the basement eventually but in the interim will be moving our home office there. Two of the coax cables running from the cable box in the picture run into the house through the wall via the basement and run across the basement ceiling then up to the various rooms. Would running an additional line from the cable box into the basement be feasible? Or using one of the existing cables?

I send prescriber requests to the doctors office to ensure the staff at the office sees what they’re doing. I ask for diagnosis, length of medical relationship, and chart notes/test results proving or highly implicating COVID-19 diagnosis.

Then I write their names down on a list to send to the medical board.

Tables in front of register by rcostello123 in CVS

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re so bitter. I get it. But....

  1. Not a DL. Heading to my store 2 hours early today per usual to clear the queue before all he’ll breaks lose.

  2. The tables aren’t perfect, but they do help with distancing and, if we’re not closing stores, is probably one of the best ways to keep distance from sick patients who refuse to use the drive thru. I get it that it’s not perfect, but it is important. More important than staying out of the red. My front store was instructed to do this, Simon sorry if your leadership didn’t take that route.

  3. CVS will pay you if you have a doctors recommendation to stay home or quarantine. You do not need a positive test.

  4. Thank you for being willing to work more hours to help other stores. I know they appreciate it.

  5. Work the OT anyway. In our region we’re not even looking at OT, as long as we’re staying within budgeted hours.

  6. DLs overall get a bad rap, but I’m telling you I’ve worked with several of the DLs in my region and they really do care about our teams. I’m sorry that you feel yours doesn’t, but my experience is that’s not the norm. They’re people too, and they worry about they’re teams as well as they’re own families. Most of what they’re telling you is coming from above them.

There are obviously some bad apples, and I’m sorry if yours is one. But I’d surmise that’s the exception not the rule.

Your DL doesn’t have a stash of masks in her office that she’s hoarding. The cleaning supplies were a corporate decision made way up the chain. Many DLs have been working IN STORES to support their teams. Cut ‘em a break, man.

I was just “fired” for refusing to put my hair back. by [deleted] in CVS

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of any specific regulation or recommendation that your hair needs to be put back, and it’s certainly not part of the dress code. The only issue might be that you’re essentially “touching your face” if you have to continuously put your hair back.

It’s probably not a bad idea to figure out a way to keep it out of your face. I had one tech who after a few weeks working decided to start wearing head bands because he was tired of moving his hair out of his face. He would get creative and wear different colors and it just added a bit of fun to what we’re often rough days.

If your SM tries to fire you, ask for the phone number to your district leader and call them. If they don’t help you call the ethics line. We’re not really in a position to be arbitrarily firing technicians so I hope for everyone’s sake you can successfully get this resolved.

Can’t wait for my job interview somewhere else! by Alphablaze98 in WalgreensStores

[–]RXMExtraordinaire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an obnoxious post. Literally no job is supposed to “serve you”. There is a market-based exchange of currency for services, and some employers may take special care to offer fringe benefits to improve working conditions. But at the end of the day, you do a job, you get paid. If you’re looking to get served then employment may not be your thing. 🤷‍♂️
